Seems that the fleetsides are a little harder to find than the stepsides. Here's mine. Its at Chaotic Kustoms in Houston right now getting bagged. Since I got her last december I've been wanting to put her on the ground, glad the day finally got here I could do it.

InDaShop, I love your truck. Thats exactly the look I'm going for with mine. I'll be looking for some wheels like that or similar to that next.

  4. Perk a lator, you picked a good place to go. Rocky and Chris do a great job! I'm right down the road, so I'll have to swing by and take a look at it.

  6. Oh man, you're truck has been my inspiration since you posted it up before Roundup last spring :) It graced my desktop for a long time. When are you gonna have it rollin? I'm trying to have mine ready for Roundup this year. I did a little more sanding on it yesterday, and brought her out for some sun

Thanks man! It is on the road now, finally. I am having some trouble getting my trans set just right, but I think I am going to try and get it out to the invasion show this weekend in Deep Ellum.

  10. Well, I finally found a fuel cell for a good price. Got it mounted this week and am finishing the rear frame section. Here are a few pics. Yeah I know the fuel cell is a little small, but I do plan on getting a bigger one later on and I gotta leave room for the receiver hitch behind it.

Love the stance! Why did you choose to kick up the frame behind the cab instead of c-notches? Just curious.. I have a 59 that I need to get started on soon and looking at what guys are doing to these things.

off-topic, but there seems to be quite a bit of Texas folk with apaches, I am in the Dallas area and would be willing to hold a little get together with beer and barbecue at my shop in the summer for all that want to come, hll even if you don't have an Apache ;)

gonna look cool .guy in my club is building an apache .i dig em

  14. Thanks Alex. I still want your Model A though! ;)

Wheelie, the reason I just kicked it up was because I want the bed floor to be flat just a little higher up. There will be a hidden compartment in the front for tools and luggage and other shit. Oh, and I didn't want to make so many cuts with the band saw. That 2x4x1/4 in tubing is a bitch to mess with!

Yeah, I've noticed there are a lot of Apaches being built around here. I didn't like mine at first, but as I've built it over the last 10 months, I've really learned to dig the shit out of it. I'm definitely down for coming up to Dallas for a little beer and bbq. Do you know Nathan Hale? He has a cool as baby blue fleetside up there with blue tinted windows. I don't personally know him, but I know his truck well

Sweetness... and Nathan Hale rings a bell but I am horrible with names. Maybe if I saw him.

    im the teacher from houston

  18. Yeah, I remember talking to you. How's yours coming along? I just got really lucky and made another sweet score for mine! :) As you can probably see, my bed has some pretty bad rust on it. A few weeks ago, a guy stopped by the shop and noticed the condition of the bed. He just so happened to have a set of bed sides for it that were in great shape. All he needed was a stepside bed, which I happened to have in my pasture. So...I drug it over to the shop on Sunday and yesterday I stopped by and there sat the new bed sides in excellent shape.....and a new tailgate.....and new inner fenders....and everything else except the front panel which I have already. :D Man, I was pumped. It's a long bed though, so I will be doing a little shortening soon, but this is gonna save me a ton of time and $$$$ on bodywork.

It is amazing the amount of 58-59 trucks that have had pics posted in this thread. I can remember when those years weren't wanted at all, the ugly ducklings of 55-58 Chebbies. On top of this all the pics were Fleetsides too!! I also own a 58 and scored a slabside box. After looking at it with the stepside box I came to the conclusion that the 59-59's just look better with the wider bed. Holliwood, I am sure that you would agree. Something about those big front ends seems to demand a wider back end.
You asked about engines sometime ago. While the six is very cool,(I have one in a stock 59 one ton flatbed) my 58 came with a 327. I might suggest that instead of a cookie cutter 350 that you consider a 283 or 327. Just an idea. I know, the older engines are getting rare and spendy.
BTW, congrats of scoring new bedsides and stuff.

    Joe

  20. Thanks Joe. That is exactly why I wanted a fleetside, bc the stepsides just look way too small with the huge front end. I think I'm gonna try to find a good 305 or 327 for economy. Unless I can come across a sweet Nailhead

I am going to put a 283 in mine but I am unsure of which trans I will use, I have a 700r4, and the original trans that came with the 283 engine (which is out of a 64 impala) which is a 3 speed but not a top loader which I prefer but I have not mocked anything up yet to see if thats possible. What is your current drivetrain setup?

edit. what are you doing with your old bed??

I picked up a 1959 Chevy 3100 cab for $100. I finaly got it home buy now I'm tracking down info. The WB is 114" but the GVW is 6500. Anyone know of other trucks like this? Is this stock for 1/2 ton? Please pm me. Thanks

  23. Once I get the other bed sides cut down and put together, I'm gonna sell the bed that's on it now.

Chev, I don't know about the GVW. Never really cared too much about that, but the wheel base is right. Though, I made mine 115 just to be unique :D They are heavy ass trucks; I do know that. The freakin' doors weigh about 100 lbs each by themselves!

Your truck looks awesome so far - nice job. I have a 59 stepper. I was just thinking "damn, now I wish I had bought that fleetside I was looking at on here late last year" and then there it was , the one InDaShop sold...That's another sweet truck.
I missed your previous thread - what are you doing for front suspension?

  28. Punkabilly, if I'm not mistaken, that baby blue stepside also used to be owned by Nathan Hale in Dallas.

Withnail, the white truck that InDaShop sold, is now in the hands of my little bro's best friend Chandler (cowoc58). He's the one that sold me my truck. The front suspension and chassis is from a 98 S-10. The rear end is an 87 Camaro w/ disc brakes.
