Bike as in motorcycle. What is the best / cheapest way to get this done? I'm basically looking at my bike budget, and considering that I'm doing this on the mega-cheap I need to figure out how much I should expect to shell out if I buy something in another state.
Foward Air. I shipped a '69 sporty from Dayton Ohio to LA for $250 about a year ago. The price is based on the weight. Craig
Repoguy, I shipped a 1979 bonni from MT to CA several years ago and it cost the buyer $850. It ended up being shipped from a local bike dealer to another/same brand dealer and they crated it for him. I know the price sounds outrageous but shipping costs are skyrocketing all over. I have friends at a local shop that have had 3 bare '32 frames ****ed up by diff freight companies in the last few months. Not just scratches but bent horns and folded over 4 link brackets etc.. Good Luck
Try J.C, Motors out of so. California they were fast cheap and did'nt have the additude of forward, and the take allot more responsiblility for the bikes saftey! Minn. to Ca 400.00 last month came on a sturdy pallet with plenty of straps and a cover you keep it all.
forward air offers a bike container it is a steel box enclosed on every side it has 6 tie downs in it and you lock it from the out side. i was in rochester ny 2 weeks ago and the price coast too coast 4 days ship time 400 dollars. i boxed a complete roller shovle head taken apart and packed 350 lbs was 113 dollars. ny too va 2 days
I just used J.C Motors too to get my bike out here from Detroit. They were top notch, friendly and you could track it on-line. Plus the free tie-downs and cover that Lownrust mentioned. Oh, and the pallet if you want it.
We used to use forward air - but it was a pain running the bikes to the airport and ****. and some customers dont live close to an airport they service. we started using allied, its door to door, and typically runs about $350....
You might be able to save a bunch by partially dis***embling the bike and putting it on two pallets, and then get pallet quotes.
I used a company called Dailey Direct Transfer out of milwaukee to ship my BSA out to arizona.... but they pick up and deliver anywhere. 494 Flat rate door to door, and you dont have to crate it. Plus, the guy came and picked it up a few hours late, and I managed to coax him into taking my full tool chest for nothing.
