Joe Allan here, have raced in California from 1959 to 1987..Races at Fremont - Half Moon Bay and Sacramento Drag Strips....Moved to Texas and have run at Abilene - San Angelo (Wall) - Texas Motorplex and San Antonio's River City and Almo Drag Strips......Won C/S at the Northern Nationals at Fremont Raceway in 1972 with a 70' Chevy Nova 402" - 375 Hp - 4 speed and 7" Castler cheater slicks.. hahahaha I tell the young guys now-a-day to try and run their cars with the tires off their trailers because thats about what we had back then......7" cheaters... anyway we won the class with a 116 mph at 12.69 et.....hard to drive because you could blow the tires off power-shift'n to second gear, off the line was like tear'n a piece of paper..too much power or to much clutch and the tire were up in smoke..............Most my really good memories are from Fremont and Half Moon Bay watching the Super Stocks thru B/Stock run, all the big name were there and even though I was a chevy man the first guy to impress me was Ed Terry out of Broadway Ford in Oakland I think if I remember rite, this guy had a B/S 1962 Ford with a 406" - 385 hp engine and that big Ford ran 108 mph in 12.68 and Ed Terry could make that 4-speed sound like an automatic, he won the winternationals B/S that same year with a 108 mph at 13.08.. big difference in elevation between Half Moon Bay which is rite off the ocean and Pomona in LA... I got to see all the big names and most of them were really nice guys to be around.. Now days run'n for money has changed a lot of things..we run 1/8 th mile now, last time out we ran a 6.08 et at 107 mph, Big tires and good traction really is nice, I like the first 60', thats where the fun is....We go to the races every chance we got.. you can't make alot of runs in 1 nite like the old days... We used to run at Grudge nite on wednesdays nights at Fremont Drag Strip and some times make 18 runs in one night.......From 1961 to 1972 were my best years, now days I drive my friends car once in a while, I'm just an old Fart with lots of memories.........You all have a great and safe new year............Joe
Joe, Hello & Welcome to the HAMB from Canyon Lake, TX. That was a great introduction. Where in the Hill Country are you? Good Luck! Lucky667
Hello Joe: Dennis here, aka dcstreetrods. I grew up in SF and did some racing at Half Moon Bay and Fremont and Cotati between '61 and '65. I had a B/S '64 GTO, we ran as Cardellini Brothers. Had a lot of fun but we were no match for Debobian Pontiac's GTO. Those were great times. Thanks for reminding me.
Hey there, welcome from Idaho! If you’re ever in our neck of the woods stop by and say hello. Mark lester
