I know there's a couple of cut down 4 doors here on the HAMB but this one should be a little different. This one takes it's inspiration from a car built back in the 50's or 60's. This isn't going to have a huge motor. It's going to have a 4 banger motor for power and will keep a full hood most of the time. Bill (the owner) is calling it his "smart" car. It should be a great little driver. The body is coming together. It's been chopped 2" and the rear dorrs have been lengthened 3" using the front doors. The body was in 17 peices and has been a little work to get back together. I'll post pics as I make progress. We're shooting for detroit to have it done. Clark
Clark, great start....looks cool, like the full hood. Our 'lil project will be finished AFTER the GNRS (at least my part!).
Great proportions Clark! Weld done! So another late night/ last minute thrash for Detroit eh! hehe Can't wait to see this go together. What mill? Tell us more bout the drivetrain. -Shiny
Great lookin little car. I love the idea of the banger with the volatility of gas prices. What engine / trans / rear? What are the plans for the frame? Will it be channeled?
WOW! You had a super nice body to start with! Everyone knows I'm a ****er for a slant windshield Model A! Looks great! I like how you used the back doors. Since I used the front doors I had to narrow the rear end of the car. What will the wheel base be? Will the wheels be right where the wheel wells are?
Definitely different. I am going to keep this on my watch list to see how it progresses. I suspect it is going to be pretty wicked when done.
The body was beat pretty bad but was not rotted. The good part of cutting it in so many peices was it was easy to hammer and dolly. The back had a couple of shotgun blasts to it. It was fun knocking all those little dents out The wheelbase will be about 90". The rear tires will fit in the wheelwels. Sorta limits how low the car can go. Can't get the door open if the tire is in the way. The car was channelled but after more thought I had to unchannel it. The driveshaft will be about 12" long and motor to rear alignment is crucial. The motor would have to of hung 3" below the frame with it channelled.....I hate **** hanging below the frame! The motor is a 2300 out of a Ranger pick up. Well actually out of Larry's roadster. Bill wanted an automatic. Those that know him will have to give him **** for that one! I should have more pics by the weekend. Clark
I know its been a while... anyone have any updates? I just bought one of these and im lookin for inspiration.....
The car has basically been done for a little over a year now. It's at the upohlstry shop right now. Clark
finished car look good, running fenders definately balances the short rear body, The proportions look good with the lengthened door. Got any engine and interior pics
Clark, beautiful work bro, I had the bantam thought as well. It is just plain cool. Keep it up man. Thanx for sharing. ~Sololobo?~
