The red and gold #9 '55 Chevy on the outside of Jody Ridley is my dad, Bob Gill. This shot is at North Ga. Speedway in Chatsworth, Ga. I'd love to see some more shots of that car if anybody has them. They had a twin to that car too, but the colors were flipped and it was #6. The sister car was driven by Stanley Shadden. I don't have any information on these, just thought they were neat. They're both screen-captures from a DVD I got a while back. The '56 Chrysler I'm fairly certain is one of the Flock brothers. Not sure of anything about the '60 Olds but it sure is cool!

Miss Bud looks kinda lost, or out of place in that photo... right? The red and gold #56 was not part of the gang. Cool pic though. Somebody out there has a picture of Dad's #9 '55 chevy. Billybob, I think that's Neil Castles' rig and car. Dog, if I'm not mistaken the roadster in that Firestone pic is the Chrysler-powered one owned by Ray Nichels and driven by Pat O'Connor for their testing. I got the package from Wayne Doebling today, and here's the first entry for this thread. Gonna take some time to scan them all right now. Thanks for all the old photos, I look forward to seeing them all. Dog427435, I wonder where those dirt photos were taken? I never had the chance to go to Winchester but I was told that the banking was such that you couldn't see all the way through the turn, if a wreck happened in the middle or on the far end of the turn you couldn't see it going in.
Art Malone drove the "Mad Dog IV" shown here at Bristol Speedway, to a new closed-course world record of 181.561 mph at the Daytona Speedway in 1961. Bill France had posted a $10,000 reward to the first person to crack 180 mph after a death caused USAC to remove Daytona from their schedule. Builder Bob Osiecki took an Indy car and a supercharged fuel injected 413 Chrysler bored to 450 cu in producing 800 hp on alcohol to do it. Six other drivers including NASCAR great's Curtis Turner and Buck Baker tried their hands before Malone got behind the wheel. Several blown engines and many shredded tires later Malone ran an estimated 226 mph on the straights and 170 mph in the turns to circle the track in 49.59 seconds. It cost Osiecki $35,000 to win the $10,000 of which Malone got $2500!
Wow Les Snow was a heck of a driver.I was at Winchester when he wrecked I believe it was a career ending crash.I remember Dennis Miles shaking Les's car down at Winchester one afternoon(Les) was late getting to the track.He made a few suggestions about a chassis setting and Les got mad as hell at his crew for listening to Dennis.I remember Les was going to talk to Dennis but was stopped by his own crew chief telling him he (Dennis)could beat him on and off the track.Pretty funny back then anywayi can't wait to see some more of Wayne's stuff John brings back some great memories.Thanks for posting.
