55 Cadillac Floorboard thickness

Guys, any idea what the thickness might be on my floorboards. I'm going to be patching some holes tommorow and I need to know what size thickness sheet metal to buy also need to know to set amperage on welder . thanks

 

would 18 gauge be about right? think a stick welder is too much for that thin of sheetmetal?

 

Yes and yes.

 

Stick is not going to work so well, also if the floor is getting punky you might want take a close look at the mounts as well, I had to rebuild all of mine during what was going to be a simple floor patch job. There are 11 mounts per side from the firewall to the rear wheel tub Fortunately some Jack*** had previously "fixed" them with thin gauge aluminum and caulking, and covered it all up with heavy undercoating!
