Firing order for your 365 is 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2

Timing is 5 deg deg. before top dead center.

Not to split hairs but Cadillac used 365 series engines 1956-1958.

As far as gasket kits go, you can order them at NAPA or O'reilly's.

I was told it was a 355 so thats what I am going by. Is the electrical syster 6 or 12 volt I received the generator with the motor too. Does anyone know if you can convert it over if its a 6 volt one.I really dont want to have to make up brackets for a alternator, I would like to use it.

12 V and 12 V generators should be available without a lot of hassle.

Do a bit of hunting for factory shop manual for that year of Cad. It may cost you a few bucks but will be well worth it when you need detailed instructions on working on the engine. Also The Motor Manual for that year should be pretty good.
That is what the independent shop mechanics used when working on that engine back when.

Link to the 58 Cad factory supplement. It looks like it is a supplement to the 57 Manual.

Should be a 12 volt generator you have. I'm pretty sure Cadillac switched over to 12v in 56.

You were told wrong, is a 365. And yes, is 12V genny from 53' on. The tag on the case should say 12v on it as well. Autozone has the gaskets cheaper than any others i found online, but likely be special order anywhere you go. Plenty of caddy engine threads here chock full of info. Good luck.

    '49-'55 Cadillacs were 331.
    '56-'58 were 365
    '59-'63 were 390

There aren't many engines that sound better than one of the early Caddy OHVs.

I was told by the buy the guy who gave me the motor it was a 355 he was so wrong. The intake is the stock cast iron one with a carter afb carb on it it would be nice to get a aftermarket one if I could find one.

  19. Do a search for the Cadillac thread by Cadillakin Marcus from a couple of years ago. It keeps popping up from time to time. It's got lots of good Cad info...

The intake should be fine unless you want multiple carbs.

the AFB is pretty much an Edelbrock so caould use the carb.

    It's a 365... trust me. I was there.
