    Hey guys,
i searched the archives but can't find the answer so here goes....i would like to install a 40 rear end in my banger 29 roadster. I know i will have to weld on perches and shorten the driveshaft and torque tube in order to bolt it up to the stock model a trans......my question is......if i decide to install a flathead and 39 trans into the chassis at a later time....will i have to modify the torque tube again or will the motor be in the correct location?
    thanks

A couple things that might help. When you weld the perches on the '40 rear end, be sure you will have enuf room for the hydraulic brake cylinders and fittings. That is do not get the perches too close to the backing plates. I used the exact measurement off a 29 Stock coupe and that was too much.

As far as the flathead and 39 trans fitting later on - it depends on the amount taken out of the 39 or 40 torque tube. For a flathead using a stock 29 firewall it is 19 7/8 inches. If the amount you remove for the banger is more or less than that I believe you will have some problems. Hope this helps.

The answer to your question is yes and no:D. I have a roadster I'm working on and and it has a Model A rearend with a 39 trans and 39 flathead. The location of the TT on the model a is the same as will be your 40 rear. You'll have to up grade to a V8 coupling and cover over the banger trans.

Bill what a lot of guys do to get around the room for the fittings for the Brake cylinders on the backing plate is to flip it upside down and or rotate it a few degrees. If she (perches)are too far out the car will sit higher because the spring is not flatten out enough.
