Does anyone have a recommendation for what carbs to use? Not a race application, just a mild street engine - 2L OHC? Decent fuel mileage is a consideration. Thank you - hope your Easter was awesome.
I think for a hot street motor, 2 Stromburg 97's would be your ticket. Or with the overhead cam you might try 2 48's--TV
arte you looking for a vintage look ? horsepower or gas milage ? the progressive holly-webers 2 barrel that were put on everything in the 70s may work for you
Looking for fuel mileage. My 30 A has the Ford 2L OHC with the stock drive train so it's no race car. For 2L, I was thinking maybe the VW Solex carbs would be something to consider.
most solexs are worn out , and the new ones pretty bad Kadrons which are Brazilian Solexes are decent and are 40mm stock single barrels, , lots of them around the swap meets/ebay but I think you can buy a manifold already set-up for the progressive holley-weber , these were very popular on 70s pintos etc
If you want a "vintage" look put a couple of seperate bowl SU's on it. They've been around since before the Model A.
Try to find an Edelbrock "Pony Ram". They were a dual carb intake for a 2.0 Pinto that ran two #1940 Holleys. I sold one on here a year or so ago.
The Edelbrock manifold I have is for downdraft carbs. The #1940's would work but would this be too rich for a stock motor? Are the Weber dcoe's side draft as the Mikuni's would be?
sidedraft mikuni and solex have same bolt pattern , sidedraft weber and dellortos share a different pattern they are close but not the same
I have ran a pair of Weber 34's on Many 2.0L with good milage and responce... If you cant find a Edlebrock FP-1 intake you can make a intake for the Early Pinto 2.0 L that will take two the Holley/Webber Progressive carbs. I've don this as well. But this wont work on the 2.3L Lima motors. If your interested let me know I will share what I remember. FrankBoss www.PintoWorks.com www.FrankBoss.com
...gotta bring this thread back fer some ideas... I need some help with a Father's Day present... My Dad has a '29 Ford Shay Replica, 1980 I think...I've been bustin' his stones for a while about getting a real one, but he likes it and has a lot of time into it. He's got a ton of real Model A and rod parts on it (to fix all the junk Shay threw on it) and has cut no corners, so I think I might shut my pie hole and give him a hand getting it more...replicated...I guess... The biggest thing that bothers him is the engine compartment and I want to help him clean it up...a lot. Two problems: Its registered as an '80 and has to conform to '80 emmisions...and...he likes the electric choke. I want to start with the intake/carb area... SO...I was checking out a couple Edelbrock FP-1 setups, but they only match up to the earlier "British" pinto motors and not the "Lima"... I'd like to build/buy a 2x1 intake for it, like the FP-1, or at least find some carb adapter that goes from a Holley 5200 2-barrel and splits to two 1-barrel carbs, maybe using a progressive setup and a modern electric choke (dual rochesters?) The intake would still look like hell, but at least the EGR fittings would be intact...we could clean them up a bit I guess...I even thoght about an Offy 4 bbl. intake with a Vintage Speed adapter to split to two carbs, but then I think I'm going the wrong way with it then...maybe too much CFMs... ...chrome behive air cleaners...a chrome steel valve cover...some hard lines (copper or brass maybe?) instead of rubber vacuum lines cleverly run around the block...but I need a cool intake/carbs to kick it off!! ...any ideas??
Mac- I love it...what are ya runnin'? i love speedsters and am contemplating a Model A with a Duratec, twin Webers, and a stand-alone ign. system mated to a t-5...
...first i gotta get pops "rod" cleaned up, but the ole Shay has given me inspiration to go modern on my first rod...but traditional real steel chassis/body...
Way back when in the gas crisis...remember when gas went over a dollar a gallon???, I built a 2300 Pinto with 2 Corvair carbs. Nice little 1 bbls. I built my own intake. The flanges were cut out with a torch and ground by hand. It looked good with 2 mid 30s Chevy air cleaners. I've seen them pretty cheap on Ebay. Some were even rebuilt in the box. Are they the best? Who knows? but they don't look too modern, not too big and they should be cheap to find. I doubt that there will be enough air velocity from a 4 cyl to allow 2 2bbls to work correctly.
...thats what I'm after...runnin' two 1-barrels would be fine...thanks for the tip. Does anyone have pics? I have never built a manifold before, but I want to try it...but I have NO experience with dual carb setups besides motorcycles, but it has been a while since I worked on Jap bikes. Do I need a plenum and can I work in an electric choke on one? Is it better to run them the same, or have one run at idle and the other come open progressively under throttle? Any experiences?
Actually, it is an Alfa Romeo 2 litre, which is the preferred engine for the Indy roadster replicas.... I, too, would like to work with the 2300 Duratec and plan get one in a future project
