Does anyone produce any cool 60s style, period correct guages like the Stewart Warner green stripe or the Dixco blue stipe?

I would be happy with just a plain chrome trimmed guage that doesn't have any gay writing or modern logos on it like auto-meter or sunpro.

Design and make your own faces how you want them. It isn't that hard.

  6. Try VDO.

One line of VDO's look very much like the old S-W's.

    JEGs carries them.

The Speedo and Tach in the pic are VDO.
The remainder except for the fuel pressure gauge are S-W's.

The fuel pressure gauge is Moon.

That's the way I'm gonna do it too. Still need to find an upside down fuel guage though.

  10. Several replies of "pretty nice" and "looks a lot like" the old gauges, but are any IDENTICAL?

I'm shopping around for gauges right now & do not think there are any repops that are "identical." Take the "Wings" S/W repops, for example. They look a lot alike, but have plastic bezels & spotty quality (as documented here on the HAMB more than once). The Classic Instrument jobs, as Meddler1 mentioned are very nice "retro style" gauges, but appear to be very pricey. I'll probably end up with some S/W period jobs off of Ebay. I'm looking at an 80 MPH speedo right now, so don't bid on it.

The classic instruments Hot Rod series is pretty plain and simple, I think thats what im going to end up using. I do kinda like that auto meter retro tach they make now though.

Car swap meets are an excellent place to pick up the real deal at excellent prices. I've pick up SW gauges for $5-$25. SW 160mph speedo for $15. Sometimes guys will have milk crates full of misc. stuff. You just have to take your time and dig through the stuff. Half the fun is in the looking.

Yea...I don't care if they were the best gauges ever made, and were given to me by God himself...I wouldn't put those in my car.

Now, if God said pretty please, and I had a boat............maybe.

I found the original guages for my Olds on ebay for $36. If you keep you eyes open you can find some neat original guages that may look good on your dash. Just have to refurbish them a little bit.

Was in a local junkyard last summer looking around and there was an old Fiberglas boat. Looked inside for curiosity sake and there was a full set of Stewart Warners. They told me $10, of course I pulled them along with the sending units. They are date coded 1969. Also had some neat light switches,a push button starter and a cool steering wheel. Just need to get a matching speedo. The tach was for a 4 cylinder.

It kills me that guys would put thousands of dollars into their engines and then use a $5 gauge to monitor it? A gauge that is inaccurate or fails is pointless.

Here are some Classic Instruments gauge designs - oh, and they are guaranteed for 5 years. And they are Alliance members too.

We went through Classic Instruments. Had them make some custom gauges. Very good people to deal with, highly recommended.

I love the gauges they made for us..
