A bit off topic, but I wanted to mention a bar/restaurant I go to every now and again called Hot Rods BBQ in Wharton NJ. If anyone is in northwestern NJ I recommend checking it out. A little pricey but very good. They just made new menus that are out of control. It's set up like a Hot Rod magazine and the art is amazing. I just thought it was pretty cool to walk in and see headers and pinstriping on the walls, flames hanging from the ceiling, and a Holley sticker on the napkin holder. http://www.hotrodsbbq.com/
In Bellaire TX inside Houston TX there is a Roadster Grille on Bellaire Blvd. but when we drove the Track Roadster there it was not open... so I can't recommend it. In Pasadena there is Barry's Burger Barn on Spencer Highway, which is car decorated inside, very plain jane outside. Good food though, been there for years.
For the guys in Escondido CA, is Thunderbirds still open?I used to hop on a bus and get there from Camp Pendleton, it was my little home away from home while in the Marines. Where else could you get a Green River?
The Easton Diner in Easton, MD on Route 50(sometimes referred to as 'Sunburst Highway' in that area) is relatively new but quite nice with great food. They have a very nice 50's feel to their diner and have an ever-growing collection of hot rod and custom prints, photos, old license plates etc...The family that runs it is first-generation Americans from Turkey...ten years ago they were living in their car and today they own and run a very nice diner that car-guys will love...someone on Delmarva should have a little breakfast cruise-in as they make great food IMHO...they even kindly hung one of my prints up at west end the counter. Sorry I don't have any pix to share but if you're in Easton, MD give them a try. http://www.eastonmd.org/ebmasite/dining.htm
A throw back type diner deal is located in Ogallala, Nebraska. I know, where the hell is Ogallala? The townis located on I-80 about 20 miles east of the Colorado state line. Nothing but 50s music in the juke box, walls lined with photos. posters and other memorabilia...all real hot rods. A must visit if you are driving through on the interstate. Hokes is a load of nostalgia. And the food is excellent at darm reasonable prices. Riley, the owner, and his wife are long time car people. He's got a collection of west coast style old school rods. And why not? He's a California transplant. Super nice people too.So, skip the golden arches and head over to Hokes.
Thunderbird Restaurant in Escondido has been closed for years now. I remember going there in my '36 Plymouth a few times, and I sold that car over 12 years ago.
While NOT a hot-rod themed restaurant, I can highly recommend lunch at the Henry Ford estate-Fairlane in Dearborn, MI....They only serve lunch but they have a very nice upscale menu served in the pool room of Henry and Clara Ford's home at a reasonable price. I have taken many friends and family there through the years and it never dissapoints...it's a very neat treat to eat lunch at Henry's house. http://www.henryfordestate.org/restaurant.htm http://www.henryfordestate.org/hours.htm
We have a little BBQ place here in Ruston, La that is called Hot Rod Bar-B-Que. It's a small place where you walk up to the counter and order your choice of meat, they had you the plate, and you go down the bar and add your sides. Just an average Joe's type of place, but the walls are covered with old race photos, signs, pictures of customer's hot rods, memorbilia, etc. The employees all wear T shirts with the name on front, and "Pit Crew" across the back.
Although I've never been, there's a place in Post Falls, Idaho called the Hot Rod Cafe (I think that's right). They have a website, looks pretty cool.
How about the Hot Rod Cafe in Couer d' Alene, Idaho. i guess it is still there. Really a neat place. Later, ****

The front half of a rodster coming through the wall. A meeting room for car clubs, and lots of picks and racing/rod memeriabila. Plus the food is real good. Brandon
There used to be this joint in Whittier, California named "Hudsons Grill", might have been a chain I'm not sure. It was named after the car and had Hudson parts hung all over the place. Used to be a hell of a cruise night back in the 90's.
how about the "HOT ROD CAFE" in Turlock, Ca? Right off the 99...good diner food with goofy 50's name and lotta cool pictures and memorabilia. priced right and the waitresses aint half bad. aint half good either but its all abou the food anyways. they make a mean corned beef hash on top of country potatoes and slap 3 eggs on top of that. good eatin.
The Hot Rod Grill in Florence Oregon... 1954-1964 Chevy front clips decorate the roof - shoebox Ford convertibles used as booths inside...
hot rod themed rollercoasters are more fun 0-82mph in 2.3 seconds electro-magnetic. Its really fun http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCKeda8OniQ
Never been to one I liked. Besides black and white checkerboard (all have it right?) makes me want to puke.
Okay ........................ I get to the Pacific Northwest on occasion, where's this **X thing and what's it all about?
Bennys Pizza in vancouver, washington just a couple minutes from portland oregon good food and neat stuff to look at.
On the south side of Indy there is a place called "Eat at Joes" or Shelby St. Diner. It is on Shelby St. just off of 65 and raymond St. Tiny little place but the food is KILLER, and they have real cherry coke. Check it out sometime. Bob
anyone remember a restaurant up around toledo ohio called molly's?it had a 57 chevy on the roof.the interior was laid out with different theme rooms, like the gridiron room, with an astroturf football field as the floor,a bowling alley room with antique bowling shirts and pins.they had a dj booth in the corner where they would take requests.every hour on the hour they would play "good golly miss molly" and all the waiters,waitresses,cooks,..everyone danced to the song.it was a very cool place, but when we went back up several years later it was gone.the rumor was the owner packed up and moved to florida
skidsteer - It's just outside of Seattle in a town named Issaquah. It's one of the two remaining Triple **X restaurants. Loads of cars there most weekends. This location opened in 1968. Here's a link to their website. http://www.triplexrootbeer.com/
On Rt. 66 in Baxter springs Kansas, "Red Ball". Excellent burger joint, all car decorated. rockabilly playing in the speakers, just 5 blocks off 66. They have the grill with a 65 chevy pickup w****d around it, with the hood overhead in the exhaust hood. Its an old building out of the 40's with the aluminun ceiling. rally kool and a nice place to stop on the Route.
