When wiping down metal with mineral spirits right before paint, what kind of rags / towels should I use and were do I buy them? I'm ***uming that they need to be lint free. What are the best quality for the price?

I usually use those microfiber yellow rags, followed by a tack cloth, a better bet than mineral spirits is lauquer thinner, it flashes quicker, so you won't have to wait, or possibly run into fisheye problems like you might with Mineral Spirits. If your on a really tight budget. You can get away with cheese cloth for rags.

A lot of body shops use cotton baby diapers for wiping down sheet metal. Naturally they are very absorbent as well as being lint-free. If you don't get oil or grease on them they last for years. The ones I use regularly in my shop are fifteen years old.

Just before paint, use a tack rag, available at auto body supply shops. They're like cheesecloth, coated with sticky resin to pull off the dust.

Go to your local paint supply store and there are spceial lint free towels you can buy, there are tork towels, kimberly-clark, or dupont sontara. This is what is used in a body shop.

Paper towels are also OK as long as it is gone over with a tack rag before you spray. Given the chioce, lint-free rags.
