Talkin about coming out from Ca. to the roundup. Someone told me the place to stay is on congreess street which is the happen place to be walking distance from everything. Need some info on the Austin motel on congress street if anybody has ever stayed there is it clean and close to all the action.

  2. Its right across the street from the Continental Club!!!!!!!!!If you find a vacancy there,,better grab it!!!!!!!

Don't get your heart set on it. You haven't got a chance of getting a room unless you stand in line the day they are up for grabs.

I know which is why I had to give zman a hard time, HOWEVER the Austin Motel does not start taking reservations until 1/1 for the rooms in April. Just wondered if zman's speed dial was fast enough for it is my understanding that only 4 people that called in got rooms, the rest went to those standing in line.

Embassy suites on south congress. Ten blocks away is the closest I could get!

There is a Radison or Ramada just across the bridges on South Congress. It not too far from where it all goes down on South Congress.

We stayed at the Homestead one year and didn't much like it but you are right it is close. We do have something in the works though.

The Kontinentials had no bearing on me getting a room there nor any of the other folks that standed in line for hours the morning the rooms went up for grabs. I [IMG] Bill....TY

There is another motel called the San Jose which is directly across the street from the Continential Club. The Austin Motel is down about 1/2 block from there.

We have been still getting rooms at the LaQuinta Inn on I-35 just south of State 71 East. It's not fancy but just 10 minutes from the Congress Street madness and you can jump right on 71 East to 183 North and on to the show!

    Good luck!

Isn't camping allowed at the fairgrounds? Hell, I live in Hutto, but if they'll allow it, i'll just sleep in the back of the Willys.

Is there a place moderately close to the Continental club? I am planning on taking time off for the trip, but I/the wife and I are considering going to the "round up"........but, we may be chasing Bobk.......and just staying for a couple of days.......that is if the wife's "doc" mentions that we can go outta' town.We are sorta' in a situation with no travel after 26 weeks.

Being a veteran of the event, (every year for the first 5 years) and paid in advance at Hotel San Jose, I was bumped from my reservation (that was paid for in advance I might say again) because of the request of the Continential Club owner (we all know who that is) THAT THE ROOMS AT THE HOTEL WERE RESERVED FOR SPECIAL GUESTS. And my reservations (that had been made EVERY year) were cancelled and that there wasn't anything that they could do and were very sorry...ahem, and what was your name again Mr.who.......LOL! Anyway, thought I would share.

The closest one after the San Jose and Austin Motel would probably have to be the Homestead. Located about 3 or 4 blocks from the Continental Club and had a decent price last time I stayed there.

The first year we went down there (2005), it was around $85 per night, I think. Now it's up to about $130 :(

The Homestead is quickly running outta rooms... but they are the next closest thing to Congress other than the Austin Motel & the San Jose (which i'm sure are completley booked). Our rooms were only $119.99 which is pretty good considering the other places we checked on were $210.00 & up! The Homstead isnt the Ritz or anything, but it's nice & clean enough to sleep in!
