You are new here, so Welcome to the HAMB, if you deside to pass it is considered good form to pass on the info to others that would give that car a good home.
Got to use a bumper jack so the axle hangs down, plus Hudson used bolts rather than studs for the wheels which gives you a little more clearance, but yes, it's a tight fit, especially if you go up on the tire sizes.
Don't ant to sound like a jerk but you're a fool if you don't buy it... there are groups of people (with money ) who would buy that vehicle just for some of its parts. Buy it, bring it to Pomona, California and flip it at the swap meet if need be. If that car were for sale in Sunny Southern California at that price it would have been gone a long time ago. Even a worked over mess is still a deal at the 3200$ price you quoted. Again, I'm not trying to act like a dick... just letting you know what I'm thinking as I'm reading.
Wrap your mind around some business sense...you want an open wheel car....the Hud aint your thang....cool Buy it anyway....spend a month of weekends cleaning it up, getting it running and safe for as little money as possible....buff it out and find the major flaws you dont want to fix. List those flaws and the positives and pull a profit... put money gained in the open wheel fund. who knows you may end up likin it and keepin it.
I am with the go for it crew! Here is what you get in OKC for $2500.00. I know it is a four door and all that jazz but I would take it if it were about $1000.00 cheaper. I think the four doors are alright! http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/cto/977631112.html
neat car! i wouldn't give you $500 until i looked at in person and ran a magnet over it. pictures can hide lots of flaws.
WTF is up with the guys posting something cool, then asking if they should buy it, then saying they don't want it? Then they vanish without telling anyone where it is. IF I had the money to buy that, it would be mine. The guys telling you to buy it and re-sell it are right on. As much as the economy sucks, old cars still sell. The guys with money are buying right now. At this time, the economy is not affecting them in a bad way. Grab it and use your profits to buy your open car.
Your not a jurk you just say what everybody is thinking hell if this car would be in holland europe it would do around 8000euros thats like 10960dollars you be a fool not to do it....
When you see a car with an "economy" level paint job, almost always there are evils that lurk beneath it. I'm not saying it's not a bargain, but the bottom line on the actual value totally depends on what is under that paint. I would check it out carefully.
Growing up my uncle had a 49 with a 308 and twin H carbs. Cool simple motor that will pull stumps out.
Those old Hudsons even when run in the salt just don't rot in that many places. Both sides of the grille, the rear fenders around the wheel area, maybe the rockers here and there. I have two and a buddy has three that were New York State cars all their lives. The frame and floors is where they're more rot prone - and even then it's only cars I've seen that sat in the mud and wet for years and years that had structural problems. Then they collapse from the bottom up. If the bottom side of this one looks good, I wouldn't be too concerned with the body panels.
Went looking for the owner today,Nobody around ,Why is it that you find a great deal and then have so many hoops to jump through,
