    No they cant! LOL

But seriously, I found this picture on the net last night...

And it got me to thinking..... It's not really a bad looking truck. Modern drivetrain, more reliable, parts right off the shelf at autozone, and NO RUST!... Hmmmm... Yea, I'd probably own it, and be proud of it, even tho it was a faker! :D

So the HAMB is all about traditional hot rods... But every so often, we catch a shot of a modern car that has a certain look or appeal that reminds us of some cl***ic lines from a forgotten time, and we think [just for a moment] that it might be cool to retro it into something interesting... Maybe even slightly HAMB-friendly.

    For example,
An 80's-90's Mopar minivan lowered and cloned into a panel delivery, or a corvair-van, or even as a corvair/econoline pickup hybrid.

How about an 80's Ford Thunderbird cloned out as a 61-63 T'bird with a bullit front end, quad headlight buckets, round tail-lights and mini-fins... Maybe even a buick style "overbite" toothed grille and no front bumper!

So what modern cars can you think of with HAMB-friendly potential?

*Remember guys this is just for fun, so let's try to be nice... And if you do post, try to have thick skin just incase the haters decide to jump on you!

Main problems are the size, shape and angle of the windshield, the shape of the doors, and the leaned-in angle of the side windows. They kill the 'traditional' profile. Those trucks with the Studebaker front ends look like hell because of the windshield. So good luck - if you start with a Scion XB or something you might have a chance.

True.... But your missing the point.
A mopar minivan will NEVER be a corvair van. I'm not even pretending it would, but the potential is there to turn one into something half way cool that could be used as a daily..... And just maybe it could be done on the cheap.

Graft on a cl***ic grille, and some chromed tail-light pods, stainless spears down the side, a cl***ic 2-tone paint job with some supreme knock-off's and WWW's, and suddenly driving the kids to soccer practice in the 'old minivan isn't a chore anymore.

What I'm getting at is that, even tho detroit stoped building cars with "soul" sometime in the early 70's, they did [every so often] put out a car with 1 or 2 decent lines on it... So I'm asking everyone to identify those cars with some potential, and think how they could be retro-modded to give them some soul.

I have seen those kits a guy around here actually has one on a reg cab sb. Looks cool if you just look at the front end but as soon as the rest of the truck is in veiw it becomes pretty funky fast. I give credit to the company for trying something new but I personaly would not do the swap.

  9. There are at least two companies producing fibergl*** bodies to change late model cars into vintage appearing cars & trucks. Neither create a HAMB friendly vehicle for a variety of obvious reasons.

In the past, I've owned one of each, and can say from personnel experience they both were good street rod's, but with all the modern ch***is, suspension, P/S, A/C etc. cannot be considered traditional, in the traditional sense.

    Let the bashing begin.....

  12. A modern car dressed up to look old is like a breast implant - sure it looks cool and is fun to play with, but it just aint the same as the real thing.
