Pay what you think is fair... I think a 354 that runs is worth $2000.. If I wanted one I would pay that price... I don't need one.. But if one came for sale at $750 I'd be all over it .... Price all depends on how bad you want or need it... As for those pulleys... They are worth more than you know... Not everyone want a blower..
So when you get pissed off because you don't agree with what I say, you resort to this? I thought it was time for some discussion, and perhaps some introspection, but alas to no avail. While it is true that this forum should have respect for restorations, that is not the majority of what happens here. It's about time you pulled those prices out of your ***.
Hemis, like any other thing in this world is worth what its worth to you! You look for the best deal you can get, and when selling you get as much as someone else is willing to pay. In the end if your happy with the price then it was worth it! I payed $1000.00 for a complete and running 354 with less then 20,000 miles on it less than a year ago. The man I bought it from also had a 330 Desoto hemi for $400.00. Some may say I paid to much and some may say I got a good deal. I'm happy with my hemi so I don't care what others say. Can't we all just get along?
$#$#--- Did I write a quote that you could read but not understand ??? The thing about the gun to the head. I've never made 1 damn person buy anything from me that they didn't agree on. And to me it sounds like your knocking MY WORLD !! >>>>.
Translation: I ran it on Craigslist twice because I have no idea where forwardlook.net is or what forward look means. Stainless steel rusting? According to the people I've been hearing from lately, that makes you a rip off artist who's good at it. I don't know if people are losing their jobs because of the economy or what, but I've been getting those emails about one a week on eBay lately. Had a guy trying to tell me a '35 Ford coupe is a useless pile of junk because he could have bought a '64 Chevy Bel Air 4-door last summer for $2000 that ran and drove. Sometimes I wonder what crack they're smoking. I thanked him for sharing his almighty car expert knowledge, though. But anyways, I agree, unless it's a real piece of **** that's been full of water for ages, $1000 for a core complete Hemi isn't unreasonable. If it's been sitting out on the ground, then you'd better be able to pop the heads at least before buying. I p***ed on a '55 331 a couple years ago, although I should have taken the 4bbl intake, because it was in a wrecked New Yorker that had been sitting with no hood for so long you couldn't even see the damned car without cutting a path into where it was. I could have picked up a 392 short block that had a hood that the block didn't look bad on it, but I never could find anyone too hot for it. So I left that too. I know a guy who has (had?) a big pile of them, saved out of cars, but again I couldn't find anyone too excited by them. Mostly Dodges and some Chrysler 331s and maybe 354s. Here again they'd been sitting outside in a pile 10 feet tall, so the ones right side up had water down the carbs, and the ones sideways and upside down had the oil pans rotting out. If I could have bought them for s**** money, I would have, but not for much more. You would have needed 3 or 4 of them to build one motor. And guys probably should remember prices are going to vary around the country, a guy in say SoCal is going to be willing to pay a little more for a good motor if he doesn't have to **** around trying to have it shipped in from say New York. A guy who knows he can find a pile of them, like I can, isn't going to be willing to pay near as much as a guy who considers himself lucky to find one at all. Shouldn't be a big deal either. If one guy won't pay your price, maybe another will. Unless you need to sell it to eat, what's the problem with that?
It all depends on what ya want .Some guys pour thousands of bucks into a 200 hp Flattie V-8 or old inline 6 and think nothing of it.Another builds a 400 HP SBC for half the money and it's called boring. But a Hemi is a fine looking piece for a hoodless car.
For the record I paid $1500 for this. The car is all there, but spent alot of time sitting 100 yards from the ocean.
So let's say you buy a running rebuildable 354 Hemi engine for 1000 bucks. How much more money to get 300-325 solid reliable HP?
A stock rebuild will net 300; a warm cam, electronic ign, 650 Holley and 1hp/inch is at your doorstep. Prices depend on machine shop costs where you are. .
I'm currently looking for one for a maybe project I'm kicking around, I made one phone call to my old contacts in the midwest and he offered up two for sale 1) is a 1954 Dodge complete car, motor turns but says it does not run, sell the car complete for $1100 or , he will pull motor for extra $150 I asked for the numbers off the motor "too fricking cold to look" expect it to be a 241 2) is a running 58 something with a 392(might be a 354) , wants $3500 for it . both located in western nebraska To him these are just old motors, and does not give you too much info I'm still kinda looking but, thats what I found so far
there's a 392 from a 57 300C on the auction site now. it's missing the valve covers and 2x4 intake, but the adjustable rockers are there and they're even throwing in a 60's big block too. kicker is, it was listed as a desoto hemi and you could've had both for $900.
