Bought a used Porta Spot welder (made in Canada) cheap, but never have used one.

It has two hand held guns, one with a thumb ****on/trigger. Dial knob reads 0-100, presumably amps.

I need instructions and a source for a replacement hand grip.

Presume they are out of business(?)

Only thing on Google is some air cooled cables and guns for $700:eek:

    Thanks!

  2. The closest I have heard of up here is a Porta Pot!! Seriously, I hope you can find what you need - it's not a brand I have heard of. Maybe down east...

most likely a name just made for for the product, probably some chinese company. Fortunately, the way theses "knock-off" guns are made are most likely based on an american or name brand model, so do some research on name brand ones and see if the anatomy is mostly the same (then the parts will most likely fit). Or just go to your local welding shop/store and ask for help, they could probably find the part.

or I could be wrong! :D

Sounds like it might be the same as a Lenco, they've been around for years as far as I know, but have not seen any lately. I bought for mine about 10 years ago, a new set of handles, [two leads into 1 handle to do spot welds like around wheelwells and 1/4 window openings]. Go to WWW.PROFAX-LENCO.COM What I have is the Lencospot 200 I think. Should be able to get parts there.

I use pro spot welders at work, for welding sheet metal i set it at 73'/, but im sure they have different settings.

Clean the tips, plug in the air and you should be good to go !

A "Porta-Spot" welder is a spot welder manufactured (or was manufactured) by a Canadian company called "Controlled Systems".
The company was (is?) owned by an Englishman (from England) and set up in the Province of Quebec. They kind of moved around within Quebec (chasing money grants and subsidies) the last I heard they were located in Rimouski Quebec . (I can track them down for parts, but it involves some leg work, PM me)

What you have in a big battery charger type box is:
A Toroid transformer, and a timer board, and really nothing else.

The two insulated grips with the copper tips do the actual welding, the small switch on one grip triggers the timer, and the knob on the box controls the duration, or energized time, current is constant.

They work pretty well for what they are.
The company, last I heard, makes body shop type mig welders (wire feed controllable at the handle), but parts for the Porta Spot are still available. (I have one out in my shed, given to me, that is going to get fixed one day)

AMH Canada Ltd. is still located in Rimouski, Québec, Canada.
Mr. Ali Osmani has been the owner of AMH Canada for the last 25 years.
The company manufactures 4 major components for the automobile industry.
#1 Small to very large spot welding machines, CompuSpot.
#2 Small to medium size Mig Welding machines, UltraMig.
#3 Small to very large scale Infrared Curing Lamp Systems, Spectratek.
#4 Exhaust tube benders, Blue Boy.
I am replying directly for those who require information concerning the Spot
Welder PortaSpot 2001 / 2002. The model PS 2002 replaced the PS 2001 about 12 years ago. A very versatile spot welder that can do almost any kind of body work or restoration is still on the production line. The new modern main board will fit inside the older machines with only a slight modification. Cables are still available in 5' or 8' sets. All of the other tips and accessories are also available. The small gun handle allows easy access to restricted areas and hard to weld places.
If you require any information or parts you may call me at (418) 724-4105
Best regards, Tom Thorn, Service Manager, AMH Canada Ltd.
