Usually, on most cars, you have to take out the interrior side panels and you will find sheetmetal nuts. romove those. and yes, remove the trim before paint.
Sorry guys for no intro... im out of Las vegas with this 1964 lincoln... My goal is to have this project car with my father before he gets too old to remember anything. if you know what i mean...ive come to HAMB for any advice on this vehicle........ive had the car for only almost a year only. great interior but the dashboard gages dont work very well. the paint is extremely bad, the last person just did the paint with no primer over straight metal, and the paint had a really bad reaction leaving a lot of bobbles.. anyones whose ever seen the car suggested powersanding...other than that i will try to get pictures up..... any advice helps with anything....thanks...
Sorry, can't help at all with your question. However ... seeing that you seem to know the correct spelling of "yeah", I for one certainly welcome you. Believe me, you're one in a million! (Well, several thousand anyway!)
tat, Nice ride, and welcome. I have a '64 ragtop. I recommend you surf ebay and get a factory shop manual. I see them there pretty regularly. The shop manual has all the details you need to get that trim off. You can also buy a shop manual/parts manual CD, but I'm told it's not the easiest thing to navigate. Most of the trim is fairly easy to remove as it's held on by triangular plastic clips. Use a stiff, wide blade putty knife to pop it off in most places - it pops straight up. There are a couple of places where threaded fasteners are used, but I can't remember where. Don't pry too hard or you'll bend the trim. I think the threaded fasterners are at the front of the front fenders and toward the rear of the rear quarters. The nuts are often hidden by heavy undercoating and 45 years of dirt. The shop manual has diagrams showing what is where. As noted before, www.thelincolnforum.net can help you out. I can't find my shop manual since my recent move, otherwise I'd scan the diagram for you. BTW, if all dash gauges aren't working, you probably have a bad gauge voltage regulator. It's behind the dash and hard to get at without taking the dash apart. Check out my web site on my '64: members.cox.net/wagtopman or www.gearheadengineer.com for disc brake info. - John
thanks man, ill look on ebay for the manuals, i never thought it would have the info on the chrome... what about the front bumper? im having trouble getting that off, i noticed that your front ones are off. did you do that yourself?
My bumpers were off when I got the car, but I put them back on. It's been a few years, but I remember there's a sequence to doing the front bumper/grille stuff. If I remember right, you need to remove the bumper brackets from underneath and take the bumper off with the brackets attached. Can't remember if the grille and trim panel above the bumper need to be off first. I'll see if I have any pictures in my old files - if I find anything I'll let you know. - John
yes please, get back to me when you can. someone told me that i had to remove the radiator to get the bumper and grill off. that just doesnt sound right. but let me know what you find out..
