Hey Stitch - ya missed a great one!

Couldn't possibly move the date, why would we want all those 'lawn chair types' at an event like this? :D

It was the best event I have been to in ages. Hopefully Simonsez will have a chance to post some of our photos.

Thanks again Nodz and all those who made the event.

great pics, man I can't wait til I get land and can setup a small dirt track for the locals around here. I can't see anything more fun to do with buddies.

Whoever took the pics did a great job.

Looks like a great event. I've been wanting to put together something like this in the mid-west USA. It would be a ball.

  9. This event was just brilliant guys and its such a neat thing to see you guys are getting a kick out of it!

Photos on here were taken by:

Bruce Taylor, myself and my partner Rebecca - ALL for the NZ Hot Rod Magazine

Helen Gould & Trevor Tynan - for the NZV8 Magazine

Its been fun seeing each others shots and its been fun relaying how cool the day was to everyone I have spoken to since then.

    Cheers Greg!

And heres a video (thanks Fish!) of Wellsy... He rebuilt the Cadi engine just before the Dust Up and drove to the event just to watch... but it soon got the better of him so we gave the car a quick once over and gave it the PASS... What a way to treat a new engine! Not sure if this is Wellsy or Squeak Bell driving on this run....

    Crank up the volume!

Hit the Railway tavern, it is or was run by an exellent Far North Maori bloke named Bill had a great night in there (helped no doubt by Bill instructing the bouncer to look after me) , they didn't call it the flying jug for nothing.
Lots of American Cars down that way Bob, are you not taking some time out to enjoy the country ? Long way to come to be able to say you visited Gore...... take a look at Kelso just north it was a ghost town complete with pigs living in houses and an abandoned servo with a couple of random wire wheels floating around.

Unfortunately the secrets out, the Dust Up was a seriously wicked day, and all credit must go to Noddy and the team. Thanks guys for giving us the opportunity to get out there and mix it up. Can't wait for the next one:)

You are welcome! And we are going to ensure that the number of cars entered stays about 30 - we don't want anymore.... but can fit in more spectators.... How was the view over the township and Pacific Ocean??

And the Dirt Track Club emailed me on Sunday night and told us it was their best ever day at the track! And thanked US for letting them be part of it.... I think it should be the other way around...

Here are Firefly's pics from the weekend ...

The Starliner has hot 428 Ford and 4-speed, and sure gave Bundy's arms a workout getting it round the track.

Alexander special is recently returned from Bonneville where it set (and reset) a record.

The #6 stock car is an ex NZ Team car that toured Australia in 1958, now owned by the son of the original builder.

The Prefect was put together for $50, specially for this event.

And the last pic shows why Ford started using a sway-bar in 1940. I think I might have to get one for next year !

    Some more shots ...

It was an awesome venue, with a fantastic view over the beaches heading towards Tauranga.

And a couple of the after-party with band. A great way to round off a cool day !

Kiwi88 - thanks for the race. Dunno who won, but it was fun going out straight after the water truck :)

Bob, Bill Richardson's trucks in Invercargill are worth a look and there's Bert's Indian at the hardware store.

Gore is the cruise capital of NZ, these dudes are just jealous Gorreans learn to drive on dirt before they're born.

I'll keep an eye out for you! I too will be there in a Fairlane, though it's Australian and a much later '79 ZH, with a factory 351 Clevo. I managed to convince the old man to let me take it, I'm looking forward to it. Needs to be driven more that car!

So if ya see a spiky haired 17 year old driving a brown ZH, that's probably me!

Great photos Simon! Did you get any photos of the Plymouth Furys?

    Noddy
P.S Yep - you certainly showed why cars need sway bars! And we didn't really keep a track of who won any races... But I'll give you this one by a whisker...
