hey all, great stuff on here. was wondering if anyone has any pics of a traditional hot rod style 47-53b chev truck. i just picked up a 50 and am going to get started on it hopefully this summer. i want to go with a traditional style, you know flat black, red wheels, etc., but as low as i can static drop. just lookin for some pics to start gathering some ideas for the project. thanks.

Like those trucks and have one but there is nothing traditional about Hot Rod 47-53 trucks and flat black and red wheels certainly isn't! this won't be pretty!

i agree with my okie neighbor.traditionalized would be more fitting.those trucks were not looked at as hotrod material until maybe the late 60's early 70's...so with that said...do a search..you'll find a bunch.save the bandwidth for other post.

there is no way of truly knowing, is there? I mean, with the thousands of young guys throwing their money down the drain in order to go faster, look cooler and sound meaner... you are telling me that no one hot rodded their pickup? I know there are some AD pickup customs from that era, so it isn't a far stretch to believe there were hotrod trucks too.

Now, if you were to say that they were not a popular vehicle to hotrod, then yes I will agree with you. :)

P.S: I love the shit out of these trucks

thanks mazer and mx6262 for the comments about my truck. I'm pretty sure AD stands for Advance Design and it is talking about the 47-55 model trucks ...but someone correct me if im wrong?

yup, true story. there were never ANY of those trucks hot rodded back in the day. JUST like there were never any hot rodded VW Beetles back in the day either (even though there are countless pics in all the Hot Rod mags of the era, along with tech articles on hopping them up and a half dozen pics in my Gasser Wars book.)

AD stands for ADVANCED DESIGN. that is what General Motors (also known as "GM" ;) )called that truck when it was released. it was just marketing for the most part. afterall, everyone wants to newest bestest most ADVANCED thing. :D

Advanced Design. 47-55. The early 55s are sometimes called 1st series, or "early" 55. In mid 55 they came out with the Task Force line. Also a bitchin lookin truck.

As far as "hot rod mat'l", Dad had a welding shop and his friend/partner had one with a small block in it. This was in 62-63. I was pretty young but I recall that guy going bumper to bumper against a Y block Ford, I think a 58-9. The Chevy had him until he lost traction, the Ford didn't have enough ass to spin the tires right away.

haha, I was getting all ready to give you a keyboard lashing the likes you've never seen! (kidding)

after I get my 'A' on the road, I keep bouncing back and forth as to what I want as a daily...and I'll more than likely pick up an AD truck. Cool daily, dependable inline, hell if I play my cards right I could use it to pull the 'A' behind!

While pick-ups were not the #1 choice of the young hot rodder there were plenty around that were hot rodded. A classmate in high school had an AD and Chev. V8 powered to boot. That was 1959-60. Probably the most popular modern truck of that time to rod was the mid 50's Ford then the Chev.. Don't ever recall seeing a Dodge or Int. however.

Not sure if you'd call my old '48 "traditional", but here's a couple shots of it a year before I sold it. I wish I'd kept it, it was a fantastic daily driver.

Al, that pickup was cool! I wish you would have kept it too...

Well, I've talked enough I guess I'd better stay on topic and post some photos...although there IS a very large thread on the subject already...

I love these trucks! Currently have a '53 5 window. Not sure what you would "classify" it as?? I call it traditional, you others may call it something else but, whatever it's called...it's a blast. Still have some more plans for it. In search of some WIDE whites to take the place of the skinnies. Have a fellow HAMB'er coming over this weekend to look at bagging the rear before summer. Cant wait.
