I always hear people sayin there getting to old for this stuff but man I feel like saying Im to young for this stuff hahaha. At 17 Ive got 5 builds under my belt within the last 4years and going for a 6th haha. The TT is finished as much as im gunna do to it and I took a month of just no tinkering with any type of hot rods to get my head back in the game and now im ready to get the juices flowing again. I pulled my 37 dodge pickup body from out in back out after its been sittin there for around 2 or 3 years. Now comes the fun part haha I would hope to have this one built in around 6months from start to finish. So I have my work cut out for me. Ohh and Im pretty much gunna build this thing with what I have laying around the shop because I put all my money in the last build hahaha but dont worry it wont be a rat rod! I think it is one of the ugliest bodys around haha but Im gunna have some fun making the porportions right on it (in my eyes). Its gunna be chopped channeld powered by a sbc and the bed will be shorten and narrowed alot. Im starting on the frame as of right now. I see in the near future some metal flake some black and some type of bright bright red orange or green to make this thing pop out at ya. The grille shell is a 35 ford big truck shell that I will be using as it has been sitting around here for about a year and im into it real cheap. well Ill post as I go along with this thing. Some chop I dont know if I will be taking that much or if Ill be taking more haha I might do a reverse chop and add about 12" to the roof for extra head room hahahaha
Hey, checked out your myspace. You've built some really cool cars. Sounds like your living the dream. Looking forward to seeing the progress on this one.
I like the way you are going with it . Some what like I have in mind for my 1937 Plymouth P/U . NO draggers for me !! I want mine stock looking BUT small front fenders on the wheel only & no rear fenders ! I am not going to chop mine and not sure if I will channel a few inches or not . Don't want it on the ground . The floors in mine are shot and about 2-4 inches of rusted sides & botttom I will have to make . I am putting in a 292 Y block with Offey 3x2 w/Holleys and Isky 3/4 race cam and 3 speed on floor with 3.55 rear . Color can go many ways right now but have to finish my 55 Ford first ! Keep us posted on your project !
I'm not sure what direction you're going, but as it sits it reminds me a lot of the '41 Chevy Big Block Scotty built out of his shop, Chuckles Garage. http://www.chucklesgarage.com/mainpage.html You can check out a whole lot more pics here: http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=277379459&albumId=148839
the cab, doors and the rest of the sheetmetal looks pretty good for being in NY for all this time, I lived in Rochester NY for 40 years and finding anything that solid is a score hope you have fun with this build. Ron....
Well I sorta left this thread hanging in the wind last time without any updates so here they are. I first started with 24ft of 2x6x3/16 wall and 24ft of 2x3x3/16 wall. Yea I know I know why buy so much steel! I like to have alot of extra laying around to build other junk haha. I Pie cut the 2x6 in the front to make it go from 6" in the rear to 3" in the front. I used my plasma cutter to buzz right through the pieces but damn with about 12"s left on the last piece the plasma cutter stopped working haha so I ended up sawzalling the little bit left. Then me and Steve my good buddy/ hot rodder for life came to the rescue and helped me clamp these bad boys to the table after they were all cut, ground down, and cleaned. Then they were stich welded and smoothed out with a stone wheel and a flap disk. Then just like everyone was thinking SPEED HOLES are a must when doing your frame like this. Yes they will be getting sleeved also. So I ended up buying some Whole saws from Home Depot which cost me a pretty penny but they were totally worth it. I ended up going from 4" down to 1.5" and I dont have a drill press so I had to drill out all 6 on one side then measure the other side and drill out 6 more and that means I drilled 24 holes which means I was freakin hurting after that. Then we started building the rest of the frame. NO I dont have a freakin frame table or a level Concrete floor hahaha I work with what Ive got and make sure everything is level and damn square. Its kinda nice to be able to build a hot rod in such a hard to work in shop haha just makes you feel better when you can saw you did this with only a few saw horses an old ****py table and some time with a level!! I kicked the rear straight up to 12" then after a few more measurements noticed thats not enough for what I want because the rake would be m***ive on it so we ended up kicking the rear up to 16" which is alot but I want it low and semi level looking. More pics and progress will be posted soon but I just gotta find my camera which has alot more pictures on it already...
