"there is NO SHORTAGE of vehicles out there. another good deal will come along. "

Well said. I got burned a few times and now tend to make decisions quickly, but yes, there are always deals out there, especially if you have cash in hand.

Having said that, there are always "deals", but was it the right deal? Would you have actually built the car? (Time, space, cash....) Chances are the guy who bought it is flipping it, so it may come up again for a higher price.

After having been in the hobby for a while I know why some guys have 10 projects and not a single finished car. Buying a project car is usually the cheapest part of the buildup.

If you are buying cars to flip them and make money then you research what similar cars are being sold for and you don't just randomly buy cars you know nothing about to try and make money. There are lots of places to search for what cars are going for.If you are in this to make money then you need to educate yourself and focus on what you know. If you are buying it to satisfy yourself then it is what it is worth to you not "How much money can I make when I resell this." If you think "this is the car I have always wanted" then really all that matters is what you can afford.

I've p***ed on a couple of deals lately. Both were for Model A Roadsters, one sold for $2500 and the other for $3800. I know when I want one next year I won't find one at them prices.

In the original post I mentioned that you drag it home and worry about the rest later. Not everyone knows everything about every car though.

You get some, you lose some.

It is pretty lame to think that someone on here drove cross country to go get it without any idea where it was actually at. Even dumber to say that you would punch someone for driving by, seeing a car they wanted and stopping and buying it.

That said, man, it's a Hudson! It's a Hudson! You have to know to not p*** one by for that kind of money.

  8. Next time you run into a deal like that, remember. "Every custom wants to be a Hudson when it grows up"

Fact of the matter is ... It was NOT meant to be ... :)

Even for the some of the harder to find type cars ... there are more than one and another will come along. EXAMPLE ...
I had a deal cooking on a fairly nice 1932 Ford 3W coupe project. Problem was ... I thought I needed to sell my up/running/driving 40 Ford coupe first. So I sold it :( ... went with the $$$ to get the 32 3W and the guy backed out.
... and ... He knew I sold my beloved 40 to get the $$$

About 6 weeks later ( exactly 4 years ago today ... 1/15/09 ... ) I bought a even better 32 3W coupe for almost the same amount of money. By the way ... the jerk who promised to sell me his 3W and didn't ... still has it and has done the same thing to someone else.
    KARMA will get him :D

  10. Ehhh, I doubt someone here got it before you did, but it's possible. Did you see it in person? You said you want an open car anyway- oh well.

Saturday to wednesday is a hell of a long time to **** around. By now you know what you shoulda done. Count it as a lesson. There was no blood loss, and it didn't cost you a dime, so it wasn't even that expensive of a lesson. Just a hard one to swallow.

anybody who's into cars should know when they're getting a deal. you dont need to go ask around, buy a cl***ic car trader, go online, do whatever, but act fast!! it's all common sense!!!

If I have learned 1 thing here its "A deal is a deal once goods or service trade hands for cash"

    NOT before...

If you have something for sale, and i want it...you will see a postal money order in your mailbox two day priority mail....period.

Thats how I get things done....dosent seem too complex....dont ask, dont think, if its a fair deal get off your *** and get it done....

were you really wanting it? or just thought it would be cool or a good deal? I read your post before and was under the impression you were just showing off what you found, after you repeatedly said you would most likely p*** because it wasnt what you were looking for..cant see how that would make you sick, unless you were just thinking dollar signs.Me personally, I knew I wanted a 49 through 50 ford shoebox, or a 55-56 ford. I fell in love with the chopped shoeboxes when I was alittle kid.. but I figured I didnt have the resources, or a shop I could do the work to make the car of my dreams so I was going to go for plan b..the 55-56 ford.. that was until I found a 50 chopped sedan here the owner was trying to sell or trade.. I made a deal with him for the car right away.. cost me the bobber I built, but I wanted to build something I wanted for a long time..to me it was worth it..no matter what it needed.I see lots of cars out there that are great deals, look cool..and I p*** them up or p*** the word on because its going to be something I'll sink cash into and then eventually get bored of and get rid of it. To me its only worth getting if I really want it.. not what others might want.. should figure out what you want, then jump on it the first time and dont look back.. just my two cents..

Keep looking! I've missed out on 4 customs that sold the same day they were listed in the last couple weeks and another where the price went up. Just need to learn and move on.

If you think its a good deal.....Fork over the cash!

I had a deal cut on a barnfind......By the time I got to it with a tow truck several people had put notes on the car saying they wanted to pay more for the car than what we agreed on......I ended up paying more since I had the tow truck backed up to the barn and saw the notes.

Should have moved faster.......I knew in my gut it was a good deal!

I have been looking to buy another car for the last month or so and I have been taking my time and seeing whats out there, comparing prices and so forth. I am mainly looking for something from 1938 to 1948 but I would not write off something else if the price was right. Case in point I found a 1955 Chevy 2dr hard top that was a show car (and it was extremely nice to say the least) for $8900 cash! I could not pick up the phone quick enough to call about it, the whole time thinking it was a scam or some kind of ploy to get you to call. But it was legit and the lady had sold her ex-hubby's car that she got out of the divorce to keep the house that she and her kids were living in. I missed it by 5 hours......and all I was going to do was flip it for 20K easy and have that much more to spend on another project.

The deals are out there and if you wait a little bit longer they will be more plentiful because of the economy. But never post a brag type post and think it will be there still after 4 or 5 days.
