Found 2 of these old flatheads. Ones a runner the others a parts motor for $500. I can find anyone who does parts for them?? Any leads??
What kind of parts? I'VE GOT CUSTOM CAMS FIFTYV8 HAS CUSTOM TIMING COVERS. CYCLONEKEVEN HAS CUSTOM ALUMINUM HEADS BARRY BURRELL HAS 2X2 INTAKES. WHAT KANTER AND OTHER SUPPLIERS LIKE THEM DON'E HAVE, CAN MOSTLY BE AQUIRED HERE ON THE HAMB
If you can't find what you need on the HAMB, there is a place called EGGY Equiptment in California somewhere that has internal parts for them.
Don't use Kanter. They like to send you parts that don't fit, at least suspension-wise. I've got a '42 I'm restoring. Those are heavy engines, 998 pounds wet. Cool though. I've got 2 Strombergs off a Buick I need to get rid of if you want a 2x2 setup.
Well found me a couple of good Lasale trans for these fattys now. Just have to run to SC to go gettem. Looking forward to the trip!!!
Nice score especially if they were close to home as they are heavy ****ers and welcome to the Cadillac flathead Club. Another source for parts is Maddog in FL, I beleive they aslo have an out let further north up the east coast but I dont recall the State. If you ever have any issues with these engines just post it up and we will do our best to give you at the least a good head start on solving it. Welcome aboard.
By the way, the starter is an easy conversion to 12 volt, by changing the solinoid. I can get you the part number, if you need.
Tyrell Machine in DeLeon TX has engine parts. those motors were used in WWII so there is/was a big parts surplus. The lifters are hydraulic, older design, with close tolerances. They need to be not worn out and very clean, install an oil filter if it doesn't have one. I went through a few sets from Tyrell b4 got it right but they stood behind them. These motors seem to be sensitive to balance. If I was doing one today, I'd balance everything that spins. The factory made a lot of noise about how smooth they were and they are smooth when right. There is a lot of weight on the crank and I wouldn't fool with it or let somebody else unless they really had their **** together, the factory claims to have balanced it good at time of build. the Pistons at least on the earlier ones, have a slot under the rings that if any longer would make the piston automatically fall apart. So they're kind of weak there, maybe the aftermarket pistons are ok. the heads had different styles of ribs etc cast into the tops of them every year so you can sort of tell what you got. get a cadillac shop manual for dimensions, tolerances, and how to do stuff on these engines. also a factory parts book is handy, both available from the usual suspects.
