  4. You can narrow the bumper with paint (or a bandsaw)... looks good with the bumper and headlights

    Hey Paul,

I thought that was you. I hope you are kidding that you did not recognize the car. BTW while you are vacationing at the river this weekend I will be block sanding and painting the car...But thanks for the idea of chopping the **cking thing, its only taken 4 months to get all those damn doors to line back up. JJ

Thanks for the help, and Curtis' car looks great! It's just that damn top...I really think it needs a 3-4 inch haircut.:p

dig it. I was thinking about using VW guards myself at one point (used to be into VW pretty big) but went a different route. Wound up modifying a Dodge unit.

Odd number centers one of the teeth in the midle of the grille.

How many you use is determined by your taste and the size of the opening. When I did the one with the cross-bar I used 11, when I did the floating grille I used 13 because I think it looks better with more shine.

I don't think there is a "Right" answer. I used an equal amount of open space to chrome to start with and just adjusted from there. Just lay yours out and pick how many YOU think looks good. :D

thanks for this writeup. found it in the archives and it was just what i needed for my van. i was going to try and do 51 ford f-1 bumper teeth the entire way across like the dixie deluxe merc but they are soooo pricey and they would have needed to be cut down a ton just to fit in the area i had to work with. i bought all the teeth, 15 altogether, for what one f-1 grille is going for on ebay. anybody thinking about doing one of these..... moores can get you as many teeth as you need and in fact i was told if you let them know what your doing you can get a bulk purchase discount. thanks again for the tech and the inspiration!
