here's some shots of what i might be driving to Austin.......The T runs great but Im not happy with radiator location. no space between the fan and water pump to move back. I'm told there is a fan called the Sidewinder from spal that's only an inch and 5/8 thick. that might work but I never heard of it> anyone here know anything?..... the 60 is a Fairlane that is awaiting wheels and tires. can anyone tell whats different with the roof?......
Cool!!! I'm working on bringing my T coupe as well. totally different look than yours, I dig it! I love those full fenders! Hey you doing any tattoos while down there? I need you to do some more for me! Is that a dodge/chrysler rear window on the 60?
cool t coupe. i like the fenders. its hard to tell from the angle but would a mechanical fan work at all?
i was thinking it looks like a mechanical one might work to, they make em pretty small diameters too, but then maybe it wouldnt be enough to cool it. the t looks neat jeff
Dennis. I have a thin Spal fan as a pusher mounted in front of my radiator, between it and the grille and it works *****n. The pushers aren't quite as effecient as the pullers, but it cools my blown Pontiac and you have to look REAL hard to see it. Good luck, -Abone.
Dennis that "T" is ****ing RAD!!! That sidewinder fan looks interesting... but its a pull only.. I courious to see what it looks like in person.. I gotta do something with the Push fan on LIVE WIRE too.. its still running hot and those plastic ones look like do do... as a pull fan... Are you coming out to GNRS??? Did you get my Email about Speed SOciety?? just checking... Piero
Hey "D" good to see ya at yer shop today, way cool! thanks for the tour. I wont tell about the 60 mod, LOL. hope to see ya at the show tomorrow, having brekfast at the beacon at 8 am if ya wanna stop by FRITZ
awesome McPhail!!! I know Matheson Radiator in Stanton CA was working on a fan called the sidewinder and had a prodotype fan made but were having issues with them so I don't think they ever got as far as m*** producing them. I needed/wanted one for my ranchero.
I had tried to run a mechanical fan on this car before, but it didn't work hardly at all.....the fan thats on it now kicks *** buddy.....it stays right at 180 even idling at the fairgrounds......BUT, if you look real close the radiator sits a bit too much ahead of front wheel centerline, and that makes me crazy! I tried to use a pusher on the front, but it looked awful......plus, it didn't have the cfm a puller does......I want to get the rad shell correct before We start fabbing a hood....... Piero, I will be in Pomona this Thursday afternoon.....I'm bringing Coby a lotsa artwork to boot........hope yall are ready....... I always loved the rear window on the 60 Fairlanes, but didn't like how long the roof was on them......So we shortened the roof and pulled the rear window forward. all the cut is out of the rear quarter window.....the window used to end where the trunklid started.....This car is a real cheap date and its gonna be sittin on a Wichita rake with big n little skinny whites and chrome reverse wheels......if Rally America EVER GETS THEM DONE!!!!!!........four scavenger pipes, silver flake on top and purple suede on bottom.....notice how I call this a custom although we radiused the rear wheel wells........ I'll take a chance on the sidewinder and relay the results to you kids.........
That T coupe turned out too cool. Just leave off the fan , who needs one anyway? The 60 is gonna be killer.
Unless it is the angle of the camera shot distaorting the view, it looks to me like the radiator is leaning out slightly at the top rather than vertical in alignment with the firewall/headlamps. This gives an awkward look to the front end especially from the side. I think I'd loosen the radiator support rods up top and then take the lower radator hose and radiator mounts loose at the frame and slide the bottom only of the rad/grille combo forward a bit and perhaps up slightly, just a hair or two, until the shell is parallel to the firewall. Block it in place carefully, step back and see how it looks. Check fan clearance against engine, and lower radiator hose for length. If it looks good or better, tighten everything up, "stretch" or replace the lower hose, make whatever adaption or modifications necessary to radiator mounting and drive that son-of-a-gun forever. It isn't so much the amount forward of the centerline as it is the "falling forward" appearance, whether actual or just visual.
That roof on the Fairlane is Falcon I think, could be wrong. EDIT- I should read the whole post first, but does look very Falconish.
I absolutely agree, my first thought was a 62-63 Falcon roof grafted on the bigger car 'cause the proportions are a deadringer for the Falcon 2door sedan roofline.
I get it now, and looking at the picture of a stock one, I like it. Are you planning to cut up the rear quarter window surround trim and make it fit the new roofline? I like that trim in place, gives it more of a hardtop look.
