anyone living in california knows the DMV is always a pain in the ***, but I'm building a 29 ford. can anyone tell me the easiest way to get this thing ***led. from what i can read on my frame it looks that the whole vin number is there. should i go in to the dmv and just turn in an application for new ***le? i have a bill of sale so thats a proof of ownership right?

    thanks for your time

is it original or hot rod? find 2 matching 29 plates on the net. if you have a bill of sale go to dmv and start paperwork. do it before you modify it. if rodded do the same but get bill of sales' for every thing. have chp check numbers. that's how i did it to keep from giving up my orig. 37 cal. ***le. dont quote me.

You will need to have the VIN verified by someone authorized to do it. There are private company's that provide registration service which is the easiest way. They are able to verify VIN's and do the right paperwork to get it through. It is well worth the small amount of $ that they charge. The person I use will come to my house, Verify the VIN, do all the paperwork and even register it at the DMV all for a 50.00 fee.

Pretty sure you need two matching plates to register. Look in the phonebook under vehicle regritration services. Might help if you listed your city so people from your area can help you out.

Cultivate a relationship with a dealer.

Ten years ago, I got a box of donuts, stopped by the local dealership and struck up a conversation with the salesman, ask about vin verification on an old car. He introduced me to his supervisor. Talked about my 1929 Chivvy that I needed to get vin verified. Two hours later I was standing in line at DMV with paperwork.

I download the form from the dmv website and call the local PD ...they send a cop over and I show him where the vin is and sometimes how to fill out the form and then go to dmv with my bill of sale and verified vin and ***le request....piece of cake.
Oh yea before doing this call dmv and ask them to check your vin number...I usually tell them I am buying a car and can they check the vin for me....usually comes back no record/ not in the computer then you can even file for a lost ***le.....***uming you have owned the car and had it ***led in California in your name before *wink.wink*

Dont know if this will help or not. When I bought my Buick it was from Missouri. I got it home and blew it apart and then DMV said it needed to be verified. I got the form and my wife asked a cop who is a client at the Vets office she worked for to stop by. He did. Signed off on the numbers and we bs'd a while about cars and away he went. Got it registered no prob :)
