I didn't see a thread already so I thought I'd start one for showing off pics from the Kumeu Hot Rod show. I went up today, and as usual it was a great event. Seemed to be a lot more swap sites this year. And there were an awful lot of cars for sale. People didn't seem to be shying away from spending money though, I saw lots of fairly big ticket items, like rolling chassis', frame rails, etc with 'SOLD' stickers on them.

Anyhow, here are my pics. Not my entire collection, the others are all of detailed things that I liked, mostly frotn and rear suspension components. I didn't take as many pics this year, probably because I was going after the more traditional stuff mostly, whereas in the past I'd shoot anything.

Here's the link to the gallery, there are too many pictures to post here, and I haven't had time to do any processing on them to make them look nicer, or a suitable forum size.

Thanks for the pics- looked like a great show. Larry from Australian Street Rodding was going over for the show so I guess there will be a feature on it soon in his mag.

Looks like you got your share of Falcons over there but I didn't see one Holden LOL. That's OK, I'm a Ford fan anyway and I'm currently storing an XP for #2 son and a Mark 1 Cortina 2 door for #3.

Yes, I'm a Ford fan too, so I guess my pictures are a bit biased!

It certainly was hot. I got burned pretty bad. You forgot the camera, but I forgot the sunscreen!

I've now had a chance to resize the pics some, so here they all are for those too lazy to click the link!

V8 powered Cortina. Unfortunately the owner never was around to open the hood!

$2600 for this Oldsmobile. Was a bit rusty for that kind of money I thought, but then it's not rally my cup of tea in the first place.

Studebaker that's quite well known in this country. It's a very well put together car, has a full flip front which is awesome.

Model A with super wide tyres

    Awesome caravan!

I remember seeing this car for sale a while ago. It was much cooler looking back then, with red steels, and a sun visor. 'Tis not the same anymore :(
    [IMG]

Superformance Cobra, $100,000NZ+ car. Personally I think you can buy or build something better for much less.

Another cool Falcon, one of the many cars for sale
    [IMG]

Pretty cool roadster. I loved the 4 link rear end in this. The panhard bar was nice and parallel with the ground. Put the coilovers on an angle and that's how I'll set up the Cortina!

Another cool falcon wagon, very nice paint on this, though it doesn't look it in the pic. Also for sale

Pinstriping on this Bel Air. Something a little bit different

Patinaed Thunderbird. If I remember correctly this thing runs a Twin Turbo V8 of some sort, but I may be thinking of a different car. Quite surprising that it has such a trick setup when you look at it.

The only gasser I've ever seen in this country, and a pretty cool one at that!

Yet another Falcon wagon. I'm not complaining, they rock! Tidy looking 250ci straight 6 in this one!

This truck was almost entirely covered with skulls and otehr cool pictures. Must've taken a while!

    And more

Aluminium 289 FIA Cobra. Built by a Kiwi bloke, John Ohlsen (sp?) who was involved somehow with the building or racing of the originals way back when. I forget how he was involved exactly, maybe someone else can shed some light?

'57 'Vette. One of my favourite factory cars of all time I think.

One of my favourites at the show. The swap area provided plenty of cars and parts to look at for the more traditioanlly inclined folk!

Cool F100 in epoxy brown with red steels, whitewalls and lettering on the doors. Cool looking kind of shop truck. The inside had plenty of cool pistriping and art too.

Cool looking Model A, also one of the coolest there I think
    [IMG]

    Patina style '40 Ford
    [IMG]

And a nice gold '40 Pickup too

Cool '34 pickup was built by the Hot Rod magazien I believe.

    Last lot!

Cool shop truck! I love the signwriting on the door. Anything to do with cards, dice, gambling, casinos and what not rocks if you ask me!

    Roadster interior

More cool signwriting. Car wasn't bad either! Unfortuantely the bloke refused to stop sitting on it so I could take a photo of the whole thing.

The only HAMB friendly car/display in the indoor section. Mostly billet in there. Phase II XW GT in there was nicely restored, but still a show car.

    Cool lace work here

    Matte & green!

Cool delivery/panel van. Nice paint on this one also.

    Pretty cool little roadster
    [IMG]

Scallopped F100 with pisntriping on the hood

I've seen this Falcon many times before, and in fact it's a local car, but i'm still impressed with it every time. It's very nice, apart from the wheels. It's got a nice stance, the detail is nice, but not over the top, gorgeous interior, and would be an awesome cruiser. She's for sale too!

Left hand drive Mk1 Cortina originating from Canada! Don't see many left hook Cortinas, especially over here!

Oh and this is what I cruised up in, for those interested, or anyone that may have seen the car on Saturday. '79 ZH Fairlane, yes I know, a bit late and non trad for this forum, but still a fantastic cruiser. She has a factory 351 Clevo, and other than a suspension and brake rebuild about 12 years ago, a new intake manifold, 600 Holley carb, exhaust, valve covers, and air cleaner, she's 100% original, paint, interior, the lot! Been in the family for pretty well all it's life!

  15. My friend just swapped his 1930 roadster powered by a 292 Y block for this coupe, so I will be giving him sh!t next time I see him, cause he just fitted the wheels and tyres this week! HA HA HA.

I went on the snow run in this car last year with Debs....yeah thats right a chick. She drives the wheels of it!!

You'll be pleased to know that it's getting lowered tomorrow then! Just the front at this stage. Depending on how much the new springs lower the front, the back may get done too. I think we decided about 70mm lower in the front would be good, or just under 3", so we went for the springs that the suspension guy said would probably drop it about that much.

Personally I would do both front and rear, but since it's ultimately my old man's car the final say has gone to him, and he wanted a bit of a raked stance. I'd rather it be more level or even slightly lower in the back than up front, just for that kind of laid back cruiser look but I think a 50mm drop in the rear would look good if the front were to drop 70mm. We'll see what it looks like tomorrow, won't be hard to drop the back end if need be.

I'm thinking your old man is just a bit older than me. He likes that '70s look. It's a nice cruiser just the same

She could afford to drive 50% of those wheels off and still have more than enough

He's 42. Like you said, it's a cruiser, so we don't want it so low that it scrapes, or ruins the ride. Just wanna lose the 4x4 height and make it look more like the luxury barge that it's supposed to be!

I was just going to say that about the wheels too!

Yup, I'm 17. My parents bred at a young age!

Here, you can get your license the day you turn 15 years old. That's your learner license of course. But it's only 6 months until you can get your restricted, the equivalent of P's. Then 18 months after that, you can get your full license. You can cut that down to 12months by doing a defensive driving course.

  22. the red oxide roadster pickup is brother in laws and the sunburnt F100 jammed hard in behind is my daily driver. :D

  23. Here's a few different shots...

    Attached Files:

  24. John worked as a fabricator for Shelby, building the famous Daytona coupes with Pete Brock and Ken Miles. When he passed away a few years back, he was halfway through building the famous 7th Daytona that Shelby had commissioned, using remaining parts from the sixties race effort. There was also an 8th car commissioned and ID'd but never built.
