Well I thought it only fair as this poor baby started and breathed its life through thick and thin in the US of A that you share the highs and lows of the rebirth in less sunnier climes in the hands of a clumsy brit.......

It all started last November like this............[IMG][IMG]

and has ended up like this.......!! [IMG]

Walmart can have their shopping trolley back when I have finished with it!!

Can't get this door off, do you think they will be able to paint around it?? Even Henry came out to lend a hand!!

    Most expensive flower pots ever!!

Its amazing how these old cars just fold up so you can put them away at the end of the day...

Yes that is a kitchen in my garage, great choice of colours white, it hides all the marks.....

Just had the chassis back today so now the real work begins...

Keep you updated on the progress (or lack of!)

Now that my man is the six million dollar question!! I haven't got a fuckin clue anymore!!!! Its been in the body shop for the last four months and have to keep looking on here to remind myself what it looks like!!:D:D

Had to send it to a professional in the end as the damage was way beyond my skills (which are zero when it comes to sheetmetal work) as it needs a complete new floor pan, rocker box assemblies and the lower six inches on the rear quarters.

When I eventually get her back she is due a chop, the great thing about this site is, if you wait long enough, there will be a thread along which will answer all your questions and the recent chop thread has made my mind up as my personal preference is definitely a chop.

It is going to be as close to original (when first customed) and 'as purchased' (by me) as possible as dont want to detract from where its come from but got a few tricks up my sleeve that may make it that bit different, still researching the possibilities!

Hope to post up some more progress pics at the end of the month as thats when the shop says its going to be ready!! Fingers crossed!!!!

Phil, I'm sure that your Merc will be one of the BEST Customs in the Country once it's done and as our American friends would say ''I ain't just blowin' smoke up your ass!''I know NOW that you have the VISION to see it through to the finish, just keep your eyes on the prize and you'll be styling in your Merc before you know it!See I can say nice things!:)

    Your LOVIN' Brother in Law,
    Nick.

The shop are doing pans from scratch!! At first couldn't find any anywhere for the 42 to 48's but think EMS have started doing a trunk kit now. Bitchin' do some but they dont match the original pattern and to be honest by the time I had bought them and then shipped them over it ended up cheaper to have a guy make them over here!

There's just too much water between you lot and us!!

Of course if you ever want to take an extended vacation then you know where I am, could do with an 'old hand' like yourself to keep me on the straight and narrow!! ;)

    Cheers Bob

Cool Merc! I know a guy that lives in Amarillo named Larry Lyle's and he did a chop on the 1946 ford coupe and documented it for Eastwood company. It's cool how he did it and it turned out looking good. Here is the web address for the chop. He starts talking about it on page 4 and the main chop is on page 3 which is where this link takes you. Good luck!
