I'll admit, that is funny. How about this: Can someone direct me toward a quality US-Made switch that will do the same thing? Hopefully one that won't force me to take out a second mortage to pay for.

I can only imagine your disbelief, but I don't. I do try to buy American. Every hand tool I own is US-made. For shoes, American Red Wing boots and dress shoes and New Balance sneaks.

I even make it point to hunt down American-made clothes. Have you tried that lately? It's not too easy.

I just need something to slow down the speed of the grinder so I don't **** up the $100 worth of US-made carbides and stones I bought from CHA.

I would like to buy an American-made switch but, when I searched one out they were $100's of dollars vs. $15.00 for something I'll use for 3-4 hours tops. Times are tough right now and spending that much on US-made switch would eat into my engine rebuild budget.

It's all about choices and priorities.

    Jeez, man.

    UPDATE:

Well- A big thanks to USERNAME for giving my the tip on how to make my own speed control and over the weekend I did just that. For $15.00 and 75% of US-made parts I was able to make my own control.

Works great and I was able to avoid Harbor Freight.

    Thanks all!

Any chance of posting a picture or two, and the parts list? I use the dimmer switch/extension cord setup for my die grinder. But if there's a better way of doing it, I may try to "upgrade".

Funny, nope for that is just what I did. I will look into making a better version but this is just what I needed for the time being.

  10. I had two pair of Red Wing work shoes (dress shoes). Neither pair was worth a ****. The first pair the soles came off and I sent them back to Red Wing and they glued them back on. The glue they used was like roofing tar and it came off and got all over everything. The other pair I got the leather on top cracked all over. I sent them back and they said they'd give me $34.00 toward a new pair of $125.00 shoes. Forget that **** .. I'll stick with Rockports and I don't give a damn where they are made. Tell me you've got an American made TV.

Sorry to hear about your shoes. My Red Wing dress shoes are going on two years and look great. Not all Red Wing shoes are made in the US. Need to make sure by looking at the label on the tongue.

Like I said originally, "When I can". Do you know of a brand of TV that is made in America.

  12. Nope, don't know of any. The last I knew of was Zenith and they had a plant in Springfield MO. There ain't a hell of a lot made in the USA anymore. I guess maybe the corporate dollars come back to America like the corporate dollars of Toyota goes back to Japan from a plant here that makes Toyota's. I just don't have the patients to go all over hell's half acres lookin' for American made stuff.

There is some truth to that. Sadly, when you factor your time in looking for and researching US-made stuff that price goes up even higher.

    Sad comment on our times

Had a meeting with a company that re-packages chinese made computer cables as there own. Well like them all. They told me the new "trend" is to use steel and aluminum alloys instead of copper because of the cost. So if it's in computer cables it will be in everything else. They will not disclaim it on the box, but maybe hide it somewhere on the product or paperwork. There is a reason it's cheap.

Just bought a second cheap floor jack, on the jack it said "contains lead paint". I'm not worried about it as I am not going to put it in my mouth. But the damn thing folded under my truck though, which was scary.

Should have gone to a pawn shop and picked up another one, like the 1st good HD one I have.

I'm no lawyer but that sounds like some deceptive stuff going on there with those cables.

Regarding the lead paint, at least the are being up front and not selling it to kids. It is when they cut corners and kids can get hurt is where I think those s*** bags should be hung and shot.
Stinks it folded under pressure and I'm glad to hear you didn't get hurt. Lesson learned I guess.

I've got a good friend you lost an eye when his bargain Chinese impact sockets exploded under load. He really wishes he spent the money for a quality US-made set. That $60.00 he saved was not worth his sight in one eye.

Is earning $1 or $2 more really worth doing damage to a innocent kid?
