well,if you really want to,go over and tell my lazy brother in law to pay me that 2 grand he owes me on that 51 ford convertible he owes me.
I think their are some old ships you can go on if your into that kind of thing don't know about car stuff.
I lived in Charleston for many years. My wife and I love to go back and visit. We do so at least 8 to 10 times a year ... for a day visit. We love to go to the market area. It is downtown off Meeting St. Shown on the map below We like to eat at Hyman's Seafood ( Meeting St @ the red pin #29 ) and at Tommy Condon's ( red pin #32 ). You can go down to White Point Gardens and see where the first shot of the Civil War was fired. If you get a chance ... ride one of the Carriage Tours. They are very informative and a nice way to spend a hour or so ... seeing the historic sites downtown. They have a stand in the heart of the Market area. If you like Bar-B-Que ... my wife and I go to Thomas Bessinger's ... out on Hwy 17 South. It is about 3 miles out of downtown Charleston ... ( look at the left hand side of the map for the VA Medical Center ) ... that is where Hwy 17 leaves downtown Charleston. Car wise ... Charleston is fairly dead in this time of the year. Not much going on ... but maybe one of the locals ( Flameabone ) will hook you up and drink a few beers with you.
Go to the Hunley museum where they have the first submarine to sink a ship. Its amazing considering it was the Civil war. Fort Sumpter is also another place to visit.
Given the weather forecast (50% chance of SNOW tomorrow), you'll probably want to do inside stuff. Definitely see the Hunley- it's an amazing piece of fabrication and technology for its time. If you're into ships, planes, WWII, that sort of thing, go over to Patriot's Point to see the USS Yorktown (aircraft carrier) and other ships. Deuce's post above shows you a lot of the historical stuff downtown.
I never go to Charleston without going to California Dreamin' .. It's a restaurant just west of Downtown. Sort of hard to get to but in my opinion have the best baby back ribs on the planet. The view used to be great, looking out of the harbor toward Ft. Sumpter but they put a bridge there and sort of messed things up. A boat ride out to the fort is neat but it may be too cold this time of year. All kinds of stuff to do downtown if you are a history buff. A really neat town. I love shrimp and grits but I don't like the ones in Charleston. They are in some kind of yucky sauce. I like the ones in Florence at the Red Bone Alley. Scrumptious! Go to the visitor center and look around and then go from there. Boone Hall Plantation is just east of town and it's where they filmed North & South. That's neat .. A big naval museum on the east side of the river too. The only Nuclear powered civilian merchant ship is there. The Citidal is there too. Tons of stuff ..
CV- the nuclear powered ship, NS Savannah, was there from 1981 until 1994 but it's gone now. According to Wikipedia, it's presently in Norfolk having the remains of its nuclear power plant ripped out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NS_Savannah
Yea, no kidding. I saw it when it was here in Charleston and you could tell it had been a cool ship in the day. I remember a friend of mine back in the 60's saw it at Savannah, GA when it was new- back when anything "atomic" was cool!
