Here is how the story goes....<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> <o></o> A guy comes in my office and we start talking old cars after he noticed some of my pictures on the wall. He says "I have a few old cars down at my fathers old home place". Immediately he got my attention. he said "I think it's 53 and a 46 and a 78 Chevy". When he told me that his plans were to s**** them I said I would like to look at them. Long story short....I bought the 54 Belair, 40 2dr <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Sedan</st1lace></st1:City>, and the Chevy boat for $300.00. We picked up the 54 this past weekend and I still need to get the other two. I have already traded the 54 and I am not sure what I am going to do with the other two....anybody need parts for a 40 <st1:City w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Sedan</st1lace></st1:City>? I am sure there are some salvageable parts on there somewhere. Moral of the story..... take advantage of s**** prices being soooo low.<o></o> <o> </o>
Not sure about all of the junk letters and symbols in the first post....must have gone a little postal on me....
QUIT telling folks about ALL the stuff lying around here ... Good they you got them and saved them from Owens Steel. .
you ****. Just kidding. No I'm not. You ****. Every thing I find around here that looks like someone **** on some Swiss cheese, goes for a grand or better. Nice score!
"I'm sure there are some salvagable parts on there somewhere" yeah... like every part attached to the car. looks buildable to me though.
I know I am going to get reamed over this but just to clarify....I am a Ford guy and have too many projects already on so I traded the 54 for the Porcelain ENCO sign in the picture. A good friend of mine wanted the car a lot more than I did and I like old signs so....done deal
You could always just tell people what a great deal you got and how glad you are that the cars are safe and then post it them on Ebay... Just a thought.
My goal was to keep the cars from getting turned into 40 Kia's......I would be interested in trading the 40 or the Impala.....old signs?.....51-52 Ford truck parts? Let me know
I think he was referring to some "I love me" threads we've been seeing lately, nothing directed at you...
I'm a Ford guy too, but the '40 and the '54 look like good catches. Probably some stuff you or somebody can use off the '72. Hard to tell from the photos what lower body and floorpan rust issues the '40 may have, but that '54 looks pretty solid. Ford man that I am, I like the styling on '40 and '54 Chevys.
The tag on the 54 was 1971 and I doubt it has moved much since then. It is fairly solid considering where it was. The tag on the 40 is 1958 and I am sure that it has a lot of rot in it but I won't know until we dig it out. It may come apart when we start pulling on it.
LOWFOMOCO- Great story. Nice to see some old SC iron get saved. The 40 looks very good from what the photos show. OTOH from what I've seen pine straw is corrosive as hell. Hopefully the metal is good under all that.
Not that it matters to anyone here but I dont think the 72s were a good demo car as it had the open frame rails, unlike the boxed frame in later years of that same body style................It could have a 400 in it though or maybe even a unlikely 454.
You da man! That 54 looks like it has a lot of nice chrome on it. In fact, looks better than most pre-tri Chevys lurking around. Good score!
