Projects Q on Buick interior

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by C9, Jan 19, 2009.

  1. Pal of mine got a 65 Buick Riviera hardtop a while back.

Built a garage for a shop and is getting started on bringing the car up to snuff.

Need some info on pulling the back seat/seats.

Looks like the base is a bench style and the backs are sorta bucket like, but are just a narrow back rest for each rear seat p***enger with radio speaker/console thingy in the middle.

Looks like maybe the backs slip over a spring thing and the bench bottom may do the same.

Got any ideas, kinda hate to start yanking and pulling.

seat bottom hooks in like a regular gm car. The back is all one piece even though it looks like 2 separate seats.

  3. We're kinda the Ford gang here, so what's the trick with GM seats?

Looks like there's some sheet metal screws to the middle console thing up high and maybe down low.

    Which one comes out first?

    Bottom or back?

you should see 2 hooks on either side of the bottom down low under the bottom edge. You have to push down and back. Sometimes they come out easy sometimes not. When you get the bottom out there are a couple of bolts holding the back to the rear bulkhead. The sheet metal screws just hold the chrome speaker grill to the seat back.

Well, I'll try to explain this (it's me not you).

On the seat bottoms, near the edge and somewhat centered, all you need to do is push in with the palm of your hand and at the same time lift up.

They just kind of 'snap' over a "U" shaped bracket.

On the seatbacks, many '60s GM's were attached somewhat like the seat bottom, but on the sides, toward the center of the seat back, and you just push it in and pull it out.

I probably didn't do a very good job of explaining, but it is pretty simple to do.

  6. That ought to do it.

    Many thanks.

Was a touch worried that yanking etc. may have broken some springs or brackets.

Guy got a deal on the Rivvie . . . great rocker covers on the nailhead, box of other speed equipment.

Woulda made a helluva donor car with it's good looking and supposed to be rebuilt Nailhead.
I know, they all say that, but the engine looks fresh and was owned by someone who does know engines....

you shouldnt have to remove the speaker grill at all just to remove the seat. as stated before theres just one sheet metal screw per side then pull up.
