The guy who has it told me that it came from the factory this way, now I aint no expert, but looks like an early 55 front and late 55 rear? Did such a thing ever happen?

I'm with Hotrod-Linkin in thinking that someone put that bed on the truck at a later date. I've seen a couple of them that way and the owners had really thought they had done something special. Usually it happened that that was what was available cheap when they tore up the stock bed.

The 55 first series trucks did have that bed, but not those fenders.

Nope, that's nowhere near original. It's got steps rear of the rear fenders, and that ain't stock. (Quattro Steppo edition, maybe?)

Glad you spotted that obvious hiccup in the seller's story!
Open drive does not always an early-55 make.
The bad thing is that it doesn't make an attractive truck with later big mojo fenders.

Years ago there were 2 early '55 3/4 tons here with the late rear fenders. One still belonged to the original owner who swore it came that way from the dealership.

My wifes uncle is a car collector or sorts, He said he thought he had seen or heard of a 3/4 ton from the factory this way?

  10. I am inclined to say no, also. I do remember that in the late fifties and early sixties it was a popular swap. I've seen them on both Ford and Chevy pick ups.

  11. People have been mis-matching beds to cabs with the same ugly results for decades.
