Those things are nasty in the sand! Nothing can keep up! they need parachutes!

Pismo as far as i can remember...Remember back when it was huge and not roped off..Until Dianne came into office and started closing shit down for turtles and plants...Competition hill and Big Block Hill was the place to be when the sun went down...PISMO in its hayday dwarfed Glamis

Ritual at Pismo is pull in and get through the river ..find a spot..drop camp and go back to the river and watch all the dumbasses get stuckin the water...good times right there

  2. I lived in Shell Beach (now Pismo) in the 60's and remember when the dunes were lawless.

    no off road fees
12 year old kids driving was OK
    open headers OK
open container OK cuz nobody checked
    open bonfire OK

Back then, there was several bus size 4WD dune cruisers that had no roofs.
You could take a tour of the dunes for a buck or two.

I've seen lots of people get stuck in that creek.

My favorite was a pretty new 66 Impala wagon pulling a 16' travel trailer. It was during the off season and late in the day, so nobody to pull him out. He went way too far out towards the surf at low tide trying to avoid the creek and then buried it. Within an hour the trailer was bobbing in the surf of the incoming tide. It had to go through a tide change before being pulled out by a big farm tractor.

  4. Doesn't hurt to ask.

If I was buying a high dollar sand car it'd be from ChrFab.
Cadillac Northstar engines, carb'd, blown or turbo'd. 400-1000 HP.

I swore off all the off-road stuff after a night in the ICU and having to sell my bike to pay my Dr bills. But it's like any other form of addiction (cars, bikes, heroin), one the threat of imminent death passes, it's right back to the source of pain and poverty. I used to have a killer nitrous oxide, nitro-gulping Banshee hillshooter, but now have a more sedate YFZ450.
Here's my wife standing too close, trying to get a good pic, Florence, Oregon

I would not be surprised at all at the number of people here who hit the dunes also. Maybe in the next few months and pending approval I will post some pics of what has taken me away from the car building lately. Hint: Its big, its front engine, and its a four seater.

This was going to be my answer to the guy that posted something about getting burned out working on hotrods, but it applies here as well. If I reach that point, I fire up my trx450r and find the nearest riding spot to chase the blues away with a serious adrenaline rush from riding quads. Wish I could make it out west to come and play in the sandboxes out there, but little sahara in oklahoma is not too far away from me. I hope to make it to lil sahara by this march. These new four strokes have come along way. My cousins' '87 quadracer 250 is still a blast to ride, but I can't get enough of that 4 stroke bottom end torque!
