This past weekend I found and bought this 1951 (I think) Ford coe down near Denver.Turns out the truck has been in the same family for years and was parked up sometime in the mid 60's Its a farm truck and its in great shape,it hasn't been molested for parts or been used for target practice. Spent a couple of hours tinkerin with the damn thing today and managed to get it started up and it made 35lbs of oil pressure on the old inline 6 flathead.the old Hudson radio in it still lights up and makes a humming noise. The old battery I removed had a manufacture date of june 64. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet,run it as it is for now then maybe later drop the cab onto a later model dually ch***is. Here's a couple of pics. I'm going to look at the official coe picture thread and get some inspiration.
Here lately I've been eyeing these COEs. As soon as I find one I can afford I'll be right there w/you.
Dammit the swap meet is next Saturday? the missus isn't going to be happy More stuff I have to have ,but don't really need but I'll buy it anyway If ya know where 'Heads by Paul' machine shop is ,the coe is still sitting on the trailer behind the shop if ya want to take a gander at it.
Looks like a great starting point. I highly suggest to use a late model dually ch***is. PM me with any questions. That is a 51 or 52 you have. Very similar to my 49, so I can give lots of suggestions. You can see mine here, i just finished the flatbed for the back and posted pics of the flatbed build here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=326596&showall=1
What a great score. I'd like to have one of those blocking the view of my shop from the road, damn thing looks like a pitbull.
Heck, man, get the brakes freed up and see if that mother will pull itself around a little. See how it really is drive a stock COE!
been eyeing those isuzu's trouble is around our neck of the woods they're all 4X4.I've been offered a chevy dually ch***is for free trouble is its ****** 4x4 again.
Oh, ****! I just noticed you're in Colorado - EVERYTHING'S a 4x4 there! LOL! 4 hours out of Denver and you'll be far enough into Kansas to get a 2WD. Buy a rollback Isuzu, put the car you drove out there in on it, and drive it back home. Then all you need to do is swap the cab and sheet metal and you're done! You can sell off the rest to cover paint, etc! ~Jason
The Isuzu would be the easy method but that thing ought to remain domestic in my view. Just a thought. An injected 300 six would roll it down the road nice.
If that is a F6 it should have one of the 254" M seies big 6 cyls in it. Also ck the dash glove box plate . See if it has the syncro 4 speed. Cool old COE.
wow! compleat and got it running in 1 day whatta deal!!! get a f-350 or f-450 ch***is with a powerstroke or a 460 and a set of tall stacks
Normally, I'd agree. But with the Isuzu (****, I think they're even made here in the USA), you get: Instant functionality - swap the cab, transfer the wiring, steering column, pedals, and go (paint it whenever) Modern suspension/brakes/steering.not-too-shabby of a newer, already in-place drivetrain... all of which parts are readily available for (every town has at least 6 to 100 of 'em driving around delivering ****) AND you can put it to work faster to recoup some of your money - it's a truck, make it EARN it's keep, dammit! That's what they were BUILT to do in the FIRST place! There are many other reasons to go with the Isuzu... but then again there are many other reasons not to. It's really a personal choice. You know, I think you can order a bare Isuzu COE ch***is NEW, with NO body on it - just the frame, mounted, plumbed, wired drivetrain & exhaust, mounted, plumbed brakes and wheels, with a steering column/steering wheel poking out the top. That would come with a new truck warranty, and you could put any body you wanted on it. Hell, I believe they make a dash harness you can order to just plug into the wiring harness the ch***is comes with, or you can get the pinouts and do your own. Just a thought. ~Jason
