  4. My first car (insert very sad face here)! I say first car, because my first vehicle was a '63 Econoline van that I wasn't legal to drive at 13 years old, we traded it for a nice little '61 Comet...stupidity got hold of me, and I swapped it for a '74 Camaro that went with my teenage mulletness. I guess it's just as well though, turns out it was once owned by Ronald Gene Simmons...no, not the guy from KISS...I miss that car, but maybe it's better we parted ways.

Dad had one he bought for $40 from a drunk man in Highlands Texas in 1974, I remember watching the road through the back floorboard when I was 4 or 5 before he finally got rid of it.

As far as what to do with the old gas, is there really any way of getting rid of the stuff that isn't socially unacceptable in today's politically correct (gag..) world? Get a huge box of coffee filters and start straining the stuff, it wont be the greatest quality fuel, but if you keep the strained gas in a fuel can, you can add a little of it now and then to some GOOD fuel until it's all burned, or use it in a lawnmower that's a piece of crap...out here in the country, we'd just make some purty fire with it, always some brush needing burned...

Ford Falcon parts will fit that car as far as suspension parts go. The doors will interchange, and even though the front fenders and hood are completely different, you could swap them out just too keep people wondering. You could fit a V-8 in there if you wanted to, but it would be a tight fit, but the six (if it's in good condition) will motor you along cheaply for a while.

I know those scallops on the side look out of place, but you get the idea...

I've got a '62 Comet, feel free to ask me any questions as I know a fair amount about these cars. Also if you follow the link to my website below, the links page there will send you to several useful places such as the Ford Falcon message board & the Comet mailing list.

New here and I'm a girl, so I'll apologize in advance...:p

My husband and I just aquired a 61 comet that has been literally sitting since 1977 when the original owner blew a freeze plug:eek:. Yay for us, being that it was free and it'll be super cool when (waaaay in the future) it's done, but this ol' gal needs everything.
We're trying to get the front fenders off so we can clean 'em out and we're stuck. Anyone know if there's a trick to this? We've got all the bolts off (that we could find-7 on each side along the top, and I believe 3 on each side connecting to the bumber) but they just won't budge...Any help or advice would be much appreciated! Thanks.

  8. There are the ones you can see, and then the ones you cannot.
You got the ones on the top, and there are a couple behind the headlights.
If you open the door, you should see one right at the top of the door post. Remove the kick panel and there is a nut inside the hole about 1/2 way down. Then there is one at the rear bottom of the fender too.
there might be one inside the wheelwell at the rear part of the fender, but I don't remember exactly. The big cars had one.

Awesome, thanks for the quick reply, we were starting to feel incompetent (well, more so than usual)...we got the ones at the door posts and he had taken the kick panel off but didn't see the bolts, however there is a hole so we'll just have to shine some light down in there. If we don't go out and check for them tonight we'll do it tomorrow. Wish us luck!

  10. There is only one behind the kick panel. the one under the back of the fender is accessible from outside.
There is also a support bar that bolts to the lower front of the fender, if that bolt does not come off, the other one is under the battery tray.

  11. If your fenders are in good shape thats Great, but if not you will have to look hard to find some,I have 61 comet s-22 for sale on kijiji in Indianapolis and it has extra set of front fenders, lower rear quaters off of another car.$1500.00 call 765-661-7534
