I believe the blown and injected Dodge dragster was the "Brief Encounter" driven by Joe Jacona from Delaware. I think it later went 8.10 and 185 mph.

The AA/A with the Olds engine was Brown and Sloan's "Beer Barrel". They later pulled the engine and put it in a rail.

The aluminum-bodied roadster was built and driven by Glenn Condon.

Cool pics! I recognize the chain link fences and the concession stand, both are still there in the same place 40+ years later. They finally took the concrete stanchions along the return road out a few years ago.

I think the Studebaker belonged to Rod Stolnecker(?). It's my understanding he was the go-to guy on Hydramatics back then. May still be for all I know.[IMG]

I believe this is the Packard engine that my dad/uncle/grandad ran in their Studebaker. (Not the red one in the pic above). It looks likes this may have been taken when they started it for the 1st time. Possibly???

If that's the truck I think it is, It's a street rod now, with an extended cab.

The Henry J was the A/Gas Wooly Bully. 413 Plymouth power with two fours on a cross ram. Ran low 12's with the automatic trans.

The black 1962 Chevy was the 409 "Zorro" from Walt Zong Motors, driven by Ed Showalter. I think it was B/Stock.

The Turbo-Stang was a strange car. No engine. Almost dead silent, yet it ran in the 10's. It was powered by a turbine plugged into the rear axle.

The horrible, blurry picture of the red coupe is a picture of "Squeaky" Ted Slaybough in his C/Gas Hes-i-ta-tion. 292 cubic inches of Hilborn-injected Chevy for power, 4-speed stick. The front wheels spent very little time in contact with pavement. It ran high 10's.

Red 1957 Wagon is the F/Stock Heartbreaker Two, a national record holder.

The black Model A with the aluminum hood is me driving when the car had the Packard engine and 4 two-barrel carbs. The best I ran was 12.10 and 115.53 mph.

The red, injected, Chevy-powered dragster in the first picture in group 13 is the national record holding A/D, "Tired Blood", of S and W Speed Shop, driven by Walt Weney. It was a high-gear-only car with a 377 inch engine and ran 8.6's and 165 mph. Walt told me that one time when he was running a dragster at Englishtown, New Jersey he did not know the motor mounts were breaking and when he put the 'chute out, the engine flew out the front of the car and rolled along on the gr*** and came to rest right-side-up and was still running because it had taken along enough length of fuel lines. A fella came running over to Walt, who was still in the dragster, and asked, "How do you shut this thing off?. Walt just said, "there's nothing in here to shut it off!".

I'm pretty sure that this is Bob Bernardin's 39 Chevy coupe "Jolly Dolly" when it was still a small block. One of my heros. I could be wrong but I think the car was originally built for the street with tags and evolved into a dedicated national record holding g***er. It's hard to tell but it could have a tag on it here.

Ya know I thought that was a Chevy and not a Pontiac but I didn't wanna start something with my uncle! Then again, he was only about 19 when he made the notes on the slides. :D

this is the little lynn II owned by the liclacure brothers (<SP?)

as stated this is the tired blood of walt weney and jim amale, this car is intact and walt has been in negotiations to buy it back. he sold it to roger glenn (dodger - frantic ford FC) before he went onto race FC's for K&G speed. roger owed money to a guy (farmer) so he let the farmer keep the rail as colladeral till he paid him. the rail was hung in the rafters of the barn where it still hangs today. roger was killed driving the frantic ford FC.
jim amale told me the car is intact less motor (wheels, body, lettering, rear, steering ect) this car won the US nationals more then once and was a multi-national record holding rail! I have the zoomies from this rail on my rail (loaners).

this is the famed "Hydro-phobia" of lou Lang, killer car launched hard and well feared, was a local guy near Vargo dragway, also was in magazines alot back in the day.

this is carrol hine, he still has this car. true local legend, engine builder/painter. neat guy has a ton of stories!

    well thats my $ .02

The last picture in group 12 shows the back of someone's head blocking the view of what I think is Neil Mahr in his Chevy-powered Wheely Healy. I think it ran as B/Modified Sports.
