That blue channeled Deuce looks to be a re-creation of Paul Fitzgerald's roadster.I don't think it's the original as Paul had been looking for it for years. Originally built in the early 50's,it had many innovations. One of the first East Coast cars to run a 265 Chevy. Also one of the first to run independent front suspension on a rod. Paul was a charter member of the infamous No-Mads club in M***achusetts whose exploits are well-detailed in the,"Cool Cars and Square Rollbars" book.I believe he retired from Sikorsky Aircraft awhile back.
good to see the Gammel/Porter 32 back to sort of original, nice car. it was a blast to drive with the L88 in it Jim
Thats weird, Paul Fitzgerald was there with the car, and this is from the program notes..... "The car was shown & raced extensively, it won its cl*** in the New England Championship (hill climbs) in '54/5/6, as well as many other championships over the years. It was a challenge for Paul (who still owns the car) to bring it back to 1959 spec for Pebble Beach, but he agreed to do it. When the event is over, it will be re-engineered again, as thats how this super active engineer likes it" So, reading that, it would seem he has always owned it??
Really cool stuff. That Napier-Ralton is just AMAZING! I'll have to look at my stuff I think it has some crazy engine in it. You have to love the hot rods mixing it up with the very expensive machinery there. Also, can't remember what that streamlined custom is, is it the Phantom Corsair? Oh and By the way, I happen to have 'Cool Cars and Square Roll Bars' in front of me and the pics of Paul's car look just like what is in these pics. I know its easy to recreate a car, but the guys at Pebble wouldn't take to kindly to that I'm sure. It looks like the real thing to me.
The Napier Railton has a 24 litre Railton-Lion engine...it has over 12,000 compe***ion miles on it since 1933, and is the holder in perpetuity of the Brooklands outer circuit record. And the streamlined thing is THE Phantom Corsair.
That is strange because I recall that he (Paul)took out an ad in several car magazines about 10 years ago or so looking for any information on the whereabouts of the car.It was my understanding that he sold the car sometime in the 60's. I remember having several conversations with my cousin ****(Manley who owned the Norm Wallace roadster at the time),Richie Willet and Fred Steele who both knew Paul very well. They were all trying to find the car. It also came up in conversation with one of his old club members;John Sharrigan(****).Can't verify it with him because he p***ed away awhile back. No matter;it is still one of my favorite cars and I'm glad to see it again.A lot of innovation in that car.
Ray, I wish I had known you were at Pebble, we were set up in the Retro Auto tent with the Bugnotti (black Bugattish boat tail) Steve
