Okay so i'm hopefully getting a model a frame from 1929, 1930 i dont have a body yet but it will be a ford from before 1932. would it be a bad idea to start welding on brackets for the suspension and the engine without sizing the body first? thanks, kyle
if you are sure where they go, you can put them on.....TCI etc don't put a body on to mount the brackets.
Well, yes and no. Model As have common dimensions that you can copy from any other car, for the most part. However, you will save yourself a lot of rework if you wait and line up the axles, especially the rear. Be patient.
if you wanted to get the frame rolling and you have a good idea of what your going for you could put the axles under it but i would just tack up the brackets until your absolutely sure of where you want it.this is my first build and i have had to do several things over from my first try
You need a plan first, what engine, trans and rear end you plan to use. If this is your first build keep it simple. Are you starting with a rolling chassis or just a frame? If you want a stock front axle and wishbone for free send me an IM and we'll get things going.
I would blast and box the frame along with welding up all the holes you you know for sure you don't need. I would'n do more than tack on anything untill I had most everything to mock it all up. On my coupe I had to move the rearend to look right without the fenders. It only moved 1/2" but one looked right and one looked wrong. Good luck, John
