I'm no expert on Cadillacs so I thought I would ask around here. On my family farm there is an old Cadillac Fleetwood 4 door behind the pond dam. Its pretty rough and got some bullet holes from the neighbor kids shooting it up 30 years ago. My grandma says its a 56. The motor is in the car and I was thinking of pulling it if I could get it to turn. These old cadillac motor's worth saving?
I had a '56 caddy. Should have the desirable olds/caddy aircleaner too, if it is still there. The 365 is not cheap to rebuild, but a nice looking motor and has plenty of torque for most any hot rod project.
everyone says they are a good motor, but i have one for sale now for over 5 months as cheap as i can sell it and i cant sell it,,,,,
Maybe it's because you didn't put a price in your ad, against the rules here. So what is this smoking deal you got, and gimme some real info on it. You may get it snapped up quicker than apple pie if you wrote a decent ad, pics included.
If it's a 56, the engine is a 365. Same family as the 331 and 390. Better get ready to spend some money though. A rebuild will cost anywhere from 2,500 to 4,500.
It can be done cheaper...ehr...uh...less expensive...yeah, that's it, less expensive (cheaper means it's not done as well as an "expensive" rebuild)...!! Just had a '54 331" rebuilt last spring for 1700.00...just got done having a '70 500" rebuilt for 2 grand...guess it depends on your builder and where you reside...look around and ask builders... R-
i am constantly getting guys asking me for the 365 engine. i am in the cadillac club and those engins don't last a week once advertised. in fact, i had three requests in the lats week for one and had to refer them to some other guys i knew that had them for sale. the engine is worth keeping, but yes, expensive to rebuild. the trans is also expensive to fix. unless you find a donor... let's see some pics when you get them.
