Just thought I'd float an idea. A friend sent me a YouTube video of guys doing some burn-outs...but these idiots were apparently using gasoline instead of water. The results were disasterous for one car. As John Wayne once said, "Life's tough, but it's tougher when you're stupid!"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?<WBR>v=FaSoz9KiCVY&feature=related

So I sent a post to a bunch of my car friends asking if they carried an extinguisher in the car with them...not in the trunk, but right there between the seats. The thread lead to a discussion about Halon, and then lead to 8 of us purchasing 5-pound Halon (okay, Halotron) extinguishers as a group for a very good discount.

I was just wondering what kind of discount would be possible for a hunderd or so HAMBers? It's a good way to get a good Halon extinguisher for cheap, and, it's something that EVERYONE ought to be carrying! Of course, someone would have to manage this by collecting money; taking the orders; shipping, etc. Maybe we could find an Alliance Vendor to supply these.

    What do you think?

Well Rich, you just never know. Enough beers and I can be coaxed into almost anything. But when I do, I won't be using gas!

About two minutes in a guy clearly says "hey anybody got a hot dog?"

These guys give hot rodders a bad name. I think there were more mushrooms involved than just the bubble window on that once-cool panel.

what idiots....and a waste of a cool 70's style van! :D Did he stall out right there maybe? Love that junk pickup too....I dont think an extinguisher would've saved this, that thing went up fasssssssssst!!!

Good idea on the extinguishers though. I already have one that I cleverly keep buried in the bottom of my trunk, I might be interested in getting one if we get a group order.

Seems that running was in order that day! Run around, take pictures, save the lawn furniture, run some more! But what ever you do, don't try to act rational!

But then again, what do you expect from a bunch of retards doing public burnouts and using gasoline?

Stupid shit happens when you act stupid. I have not an ounce of pity for these idiots!

Fire extinguishers are now pretty darn cheap and easy to get thanks to the Ricer crowd that loved hanging them on the winshield pillars. Come on, who didn't do that back in the day?

Get a couple and place them in handy spots.

  12. Sounds like the axle shifted over into the gas tank, punctured it and that's how it went up. Definitely looks like it went fast!

Back to the original question: I'd be interested in an extinguisher depending on the specifics.

Is Halotron the new Halon? I didn't think they sold Halon anymore. A street rod club sold them years ago, I still have mine.

A Few years ago my 68 Firebird caught fire at a light and all I had with me was a 20 .oz cup of coffee to put it out. Saved the car but now I carry a an extinguisher in the 55 whenever it leaves the garage.

I keep a 10 lb in my truck, and small ones in every car....extinguishers are like firearms, you may never need one, but when you do - there's absolutely no subsitute.

In the video you can hear someone say how the rearend shifted and punctured the fuel tank. No evidence these were so-called "gas" burnouts.

Course I do my burnouts at the strip.

Watch this one at the strip and see how many and how fast the extinguishers are on it:

  23. Hard to watch that video with all the stupid folks standing around.

I carry an extinguisher in ALL of my cars. And two in the sedan, a vintage one and a new one (right behind me attached to the seat).

That all said, if there is a good deal, I would be willing to go in on it. I don't have a Halon (or whatever they are) extinguisher, but have wanted one.

I hope his insurance company doesn't see that video. I think I remember a big discussion on HAMB last year about which type of fire extinguisher works best in a car fire? What was it?

Lowes has the marine/auto small extinguishers for about $20.00 I have one in both my rods

  28. That definitley looks like the tank got ruptured and I would be very surprised if an extingusher would have done anything. If he was doing a burnout to cause the problem he is a huge idiot as you can clearly see two kids get out of the vehicle as it is going up in smoke.

If there's a broup buy on fire extinguishers I'm in for one or maybe 2.

i used to always carry one in my truck, one night heading home from college pulled into a town and the dude across from me at the intersection jumped out of his car and popped the hood to flame. I jumped out and we had it out in less than 30 seconds.
Cop showed up as we were pushing it to the curb and asked if we needed it put out HA!
Turns out the car was borrowed.
I think I left it on the scene and never replaced it (smart huh)
