Anouther thing i read, use an electric fuel pump to prime the motor when starting

  3. Had an Hilborn on my Caddy powered 37 Ford years ago . It idled ok but had surge when acelerating, but if you wanted power you had to hold it wide open while shifting through the gears. You had to really drive the thing as it would carry the front wheels with rear tires going up in smoke while you started to hang the rear end out.

i'm looking at a 'looped' in 3rd bypass set up right now. kind of a progressive set up to allow more fuel to head back to the tank at part throttle. still trying to determine which spool will be the best for my set up.

I was off on the mag, but if anyone can scan it there was a decent artical in the Rodders Digest, Feb 05, where they were setting up a hilborn for the street... then again the motor was 12.5 to 1, sbc 400, with ported 2.02 camel humps

Also i belive a big part of the problem is probably the enormous CFM's required, so why can't i sleeve the ports and venturi's down to a useble size?? If anyone has a junk sbc manifold sitting around i'd love to try it on my Hot 301

A little tinkering is normal, but that is in response to people saying they have no problems with it.

Ive had it on my coupe and its CONSTANT tinkering.

As far as stupid fuel pumps and what not to prime it, simply put the pump below the fuel tank, crank it over a few times with the mag off, then light it. Thats the easiest part of the whole setup.

Ran into a gent at Tindusters event in Quincy Il. running a home brewed mechanical system on a Ford 60 flathead. Using stromberg throttle bodies, Hilborn pump, home made nozels, and running E85. He said E85 was easyer to tune. It started and ran like a top.
