Been lurking for a while now... but curious if anyone has seen/ has pics of any 65-66 Galaxie customs? I have dug through all the mags I have only to come across one in Hot Rod that had big wheels and bling on it. I got this 66 500 from my cousin for free and am in the process of getting it running/driving/semi-legal but for now I wanted to see other cars like mine.... Ok here's what it looks like now and this is what I was thinking for it (but with wide whites and light blue painted wheels) lookin' to see if anyone has seen anything already done for possible inspiration
65 is muscle car land. That said, I see no reason why you couldn't stick some Astros and pinner whites on it, drop the ****er, shave a little here and there, put some decent paint on or tinted primer w/ a metal flaked roof, and have something cool. No wide whites, flat black, red wheels, etc. That's just wrong for this car/ Wrong era.
If this were a Chevy I would agree with you... but with the squarness of this body style I think it will look just fine with wide whites... If I come across some extra $$ astros would be sweet but I'm keeping it as cheap as I can. Looking for pictures
Play off the factory tint in the gl***. Maybe an icy green satin color with an icy-er(spl) silver green roof, cash in on the lace trend up there as well. chrome reverse with two prong knockoffs, nice, deep off set wheels and the skinny whites you already have. Oh yeah, and drop it. Hell with it! Just send it to me.

Looking for pictures [/ QUOTE ] I think anything built after '61 looks like a Harlem pimp's ***** packer with wide whites on it. but if that's the look you're after, it's your car, just don't ask for any more opinions after it's done.

I already have the thins.... and being as broke as I am probably the only thing that will happen is it will get lowered.... but I like to dream
[ QUOTE ] but with the squarness of this body style I think it will look just fine with wide whites [/ QUOTE ] the squareness of the body style is exactly why it will look wrong with wide whites. . . like you wish you had a '50s car. Besides since when was being poor an argument for running WWW's? go to wallmart and get some skinny whites for $30 a piece fool. A few years ago I ran a 67 ford ltd and did it up exactly like everyone does 67 impalas- lowered, stock caps, skinny whies, nice simple paint- the car was cool and it blew a few minds because impalas are just so damn boring these days.
You got the 289 in there? I had a 66 Gal with a 289 years ago and that thing musta got like 25 miles to the gallon, handled like it had flat tires tho.
Flatback with wide whites is all wrong on that beatuiful car. That would make it look ROCKASILLY. Instead: fix any rust, touch up the current paint. Is the green paint all bad? That is a nice color! Some rubbing, polish and wax maybe?..., tune up the engine and enjoy it! For period wheels I would insist for some mid-sixties mag wheels (or repop American Racing), or go with gloss black steelies with narrow red-wall tires. Not a common custom fodder, but I can imagine it as a mid 60´s street custom with a tinted pearl paint job, narrow black tuck and roll and chromed Astro five slot steelies. BUT NEVER ANY WIDE WHITES!
I have to agree...www's on anything past about 1960, maybe 1961, just looks confused. That car has good potential. As stated above...skinny whites or red walls. Keep the wheels and paint them to match the paint...maybe add a little fade around the edge and center. Chrome trim ring and chrome lugs with a bullet center. Lower it. Dump tubes. I would think "metallic" for the paint. It doesn't have to be metal flake...just a nice, clean metallic. Maybe some ghost scallops. My $.02...not that you asked.
thin whitewalls/astro's with bullet cones..riv hideaway lights, the rear lights are square right?.....flat red plastic, retain the chrome trim and something small for the center(there are TONS of donor cars to lokk at),lowered a bunch(3-5 inches)that grill is big, flat and begging for a change....not a tube grill.....use a early sixtys car color and then heavy flake the top(same color)I inch pleated interior...(early -mid sixtys T-bird)...bellflowers on the rear. ..That car can follow the same custom hints of an early sixtys car......remember.... LESS IS MORE .....git going ya idjit.
agreed that you can follow the early mid sixties flow and make it look great. there were pics around of a white one with green flames that looked pretty good if you like flames. personally i think panels or scallops. sorta simple but a good shocker would be a nice metallic body playing a few tricks with pearls. with a flake roof with lace panels. chrome reverse or astros or daisies even. no wide whites. out of place on a 60s car. if your gonna dump a ****load of money on tires double or triple pinstripe whites will cost you about the same as wides. but if you on a budget you can get a full set os skinny whites for not much more than one wide white will cost ya. i'd say first get it running good. save up get yourself some wheels and then one weekend drop it and change to your new wheels. it'll make a world of difference and make you feel 100 times better about it. it's a real simple goal to since you should be able to pull of wheels/tires and lowering for way less than a grand. then you got a cool car on nice rolling stock with a good stance and since you got it for free you've still got less in it than some people who are just starting their project. oh yeah 63-66 tbird interiors will rule the world one day.haha. below is a good example of what can be done with a little later lesser used car. it's a mopar but you will get the idea...ken....
luckystiff...is that your ride?! Somebody on here, at one point, was contemplating customizing one of those...or something similar. I think it's a prime example of what can be done if a person is willing to open their mind to the possibilities of less "traditional" custom material! VERY NICE!
barnett, nah wouldn't mind it being but it's a west coast car i just can't remember whose right now. it is a perfect example of what you can do with a fairly easy cheap to get car and a little imagination. there's a few things i think i would have done differently on it but it still is an incredible ride no doubt. no you know me just got that lowly oh hunk of a buick that needs a new motor . oh yeah speaking of which after i recover from this rebuild for it i need to talk to you about doing up a monster shirt for me. i'm to broke til the car is back on the road ...ken....
and the photoshop version which will be closely followed when the paint is redone later in the year...ken....
