Will you still be able to run a mechanical fan without recessing the firewall? Looks great by the way.

Yup, I had it mocked up with a flat blade old style Chevy fan..fit in like a glove. That was one of my main areas of focus when moving the crossmember forward. Good point.

Since I relocated the support brackets I had to make up a set of rods to see if it was worth the effort. 73roundlight has some slick radiator support rods that go around his 6x2 setup. I really like the way they look. I made a pair up tonight with some stainless rod stock that I had laying around the shop. Still need to do some tweaking but they're close to what I want. Moving those support rod brackets over really helped. Wanted to do this now also because I don't want to do too much fitting and fabrication after the grill shell is painted.

Some more progress today. Scored a really nice set of lake headers for the caddy motor that were in the classified section the other day. I was gonna have to make the flanges and then go through the work of fitting and welding everything up with a set from scratch..and then these came along. They were put together nice, fit excellent and look sharp. I cleaned them up and sprayed them with black BBQ paint. They sell this stuff at home depot and lowe's..it works good, holds up over time, and dries a nice semi gloss color.

Heater guy is still in Myrtle Beach and the big oil heater is not hooked up. I've been using one of those little torpedo heaters, so I can't spray the body green yet until it's warmer inside.

There was a homemade generator bracket that was welded to the top of the header flange that I rewelded and reinforced. Tonight, I cleaned up my generator and mounted it on the engine. I have to unbolt the factory bracket that is still on the block. This weekend I'm going to get a fuel pump, plugs and wires, dist. cap and some other things to start getting the engine ready.

I have my eyes on a set of adjustable rockers and a cam...thinking about it..not sure if I want to spend the bread right now on them.

Looks awesome dude... the wheels are right on... and I would wait to do the Cam and Adjustable Rockers... Get it running and work out the bugs on the whole car first...
you can add that stuff later.... IMO..

    Go at it!!!

Yeah..that's the plan..get her running good first so there is no problem when breaking the cam in initially. Got the rockers..;)

I have a 75,000 Btu torpedo heater which I used to heat up the frame and surrounding area before painting. My oil furnace is not hooked up yet. I used a single stage automotive enamel with a hardener on the frame. Firewall is Wimbelton White spray bomb and the ladder bars, axle, and wishbones were done with a satin black color also in a spray bomb.

The engine was painted with a high heat engine enamel made by plasticote.

  21. Hey Jerry - I saw that you are in on the contest... Can you post that link too? I was going to nominate your thread as a winter project, I would say that is what it is in the least!

    some more progress...

Did some grinding on the back corners where I did the sectioning. Trying to get things blended in as good as I can before putting filler on top. I started to do a little blocking of the body as well. I'll have my oil heater hooked up in about a week and then I can shoot some more primer on her and then paint.

Also made a new driver side radiator support rod and a rod mounting bracket for the grill shell. I have the bracket held in with wire until I can get to the hardware store for some bolts. Still need to get some new tires for the ford wheels that I have to go on the rear. Those little rears are killing me.

When everything was said and done tonight I took a step back and snapped a pic of the roadster, long way to go..but I had a proud moment. :)

Some more progress the past couple of days....

Made a little filler panel to go on the back of my radiator shell and louvered it. I used a Mustang type radiator that is a little shorter than a stock 32 or A radiator. The filler panel hides the small height gap and is hinged to flip open to access the top of the radiator.

Got a set of wheel adapters for the rear. My original bolt pattern is 4 1/2 and I needed to go to 5 1/2 for my 40's ford wheels.

Also fitted on a 34 roadster top that a buddy gave me just for kicks. I was surprised to see how close of a fit it was.

Here's a pic of the the studebaker adjustable rockers that I'm going to swap my stockers with eventually down the road. My buddy Marty had some stashed away. If you've put these on a Caddy please check out my thread asking for help with these http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=332848
..I need some info about doing this switch.
