Couldn't you just use the 241 heads on a 270 poly block? 270 Poly engines are all over the place, you should be able to pick one up cheap. Get a 55 or 56 Dodge (56 Coronet only) car with the Poly in it, keep the motor and part the rest out. There's lots of rusty 4 doors out there that could be had off of eBay for $500 or less and they part out well.

doesn't the 241 and 270 use the same block? The 260 Poly as well?

Pretty much, need to check push rod clearance when using a Poly block.

    Good info.
How are the Desoto 291's? My '55 Desoto has the original one, never been pulled and I've put about 35,000 miles on it in the past 5 years. Its a tough old bird and it keeps on going. But it is hard to find speed parts whereas the 291 is a one year base, no other heads or intakes will cross over. I mean, can you get some power out of the 291's? Here in about a month or two, I'll be puting a T-5 in it and it should help the power transfer. The powerflite is a slushbox and makes it a dog.
    Thanks.

What CAR are you putting the Hemi in? If you keep the 241 contact TR Waters(posted above), he sells the offset key you need to put the late 318/360 damper on your 241 crank. Hot Heads still advertises an aluminum 3x2 manifold for the 241-270 low deck. I'd take the 241 apart and inspect it, make sure it's right! At the very least, I would clean everything, use new bearings, timing chain, etc.
    Good Luck!

It's a low deck like the 276. 4 bl intakes are scarce & expensive & yes very little speed equipment vs Dodge & Chrysler. Regrind cam shafts & aftermarket log intakes are about it. Check ScooterMcRad's hemi tech index.

  7. If I was in your shoes I'd build the 241 Hemi....not because of any real prefrence but because you have three!! You have spare parts and as stated above unless your going to go racing, and all your really looking for is the look in your rod, then use what you got.
