Are Cadillac 500's good reliable motors and power houses. Because I am thinking bout putting one in my 1946 Chevrolet 1/2 ton.
TORQUE MONSTERS!!! About as reliable as an american V8 ever was! Solid and well engineered. If you want to hop one up, it takes a little more tallent than the average SBC guy could offer, but the caddy has a good following, and pleanty-o-speed parts are available. If your talking about keeping it stock and just droping it into your truck, you might need an oil pump, pan, and pickup from an eldorado or a 425 caddy motor. Others can offer more assitance in that dept.
I'm running a 472 in my 50 Buick and have some modifications and a whole lot of power and torque. By the way they weigh less than a BBC and have more torque. I love that motor, a 500 is the same block with the same power. Enjoy it's awesome. Rags
Hi, I've ran a 472 and a 500 in the demolition derby over the last two years and both were indestrucable. Even after the radiator got punched and puked the water all out they kept on running. They don't build em like that anymore! Rick
I built one for my 50 cad, great motor. Check out http://www.500cid.com/MTSHome.htm A lot of good info and parts. Also read a book called "big inch cadillac" Great read, bunch of good info there as well. They only weigh something like 50-60 lbs more than a sbc and its easy to pull 600 pound feet of torque out of them.
