That be it, to the best of my knowledge. This is a great photo too. Fills in a few gaps, with regards to the rollbar. I'd love to find more pics, for when the lettering gets done, as we only have three real 4x6's, and thats it!! Thanks for posting it!

That is a GREAT thread, Wayne's stories of back in the day were priceless. I wonder what happened to him, we're losing our pioneers at a rapid rate and thier experiences with them. How 'bout some stories Goldfinger, what were some of your favorite memories?

Response from MikeGaines, the guy who built the AWB 65 Plymouth named Goldfinger..

I was 24 in 1966 and I just wanted to go fast, or up, it didnt make any difference which way.

We match raced almost every weekend. Now you gotta understand that I was just a guy from Central Illinois who built my own car, from the ground up...I wasnt a famous west coast factory guy....but anyway with that being said...we usually got paid $250 for showing up for a best of 2 out of 3 or best 3 out of 5 match race.

If we beat the other guy the $250 became $350 to $500.

We all ran Hilborns on Nitromethane ( crowd loved the smell) but man was it expensive.

We used powdered rosin...we would do one burnout...backup and then one of our guys would sprinkle down the rosin in the tracks and we would make 2 more burnouts....then the guys would flip open the Moon Tank mounted on the front Grill and top off the
alcohol and Nitromethane mix...and then make the p***.

I even had the occ***ion when the track promotor specifically asked if I WOULD NOT POP THE CHUTE and go into the sand trap on the end of the track on purpose...I did what he wanted...and when i hit the end of the track the announcer yelled over the PA system... "My god, his chute didnt open, he is going to crash" but of course, I had hit the brakes hard and merely drove gingerly into the sand trap about 25 feet...all for the show of it...those were the days my friend...and dont think it didnt happen....

Thanks...I'll "lived" at LIONS every weekend as a kid. From my spot (yellow dot), I not only got a good look at the starting line, but also got to see the cars coming back on the return road and stopping to get their times slip...Thats how I'd get those two photos all day long..

These are pictures of my 1963/65 AFX car. I bought the car in 2008 and am trying to track down it’s racing history. Can you help? The car was bought new form Klipstein Plymouth in Cheyenne, Wyoming around the 4th of July 1963. This was a factory race car. The car was sold new as a 1963 red Plymouth Savoy Stage 2, 13 to 1 compression automatic car. During the life of the car it had a clutch installed, and was painted light grey primer, then painted blue. The next stage of the car was switching to an AFX altered wheel base car with a modern upgrade to a 1965 Plymouth front end. This was done in the late 60's or into the 70's The race history from new, Klipstein Plymouth was closed for business years ago. Checking the cars history from 2007 back 4 owners I was stopped at Vance ***mings, a mopar restorer from Grand Haven, Michigan. He owned the car in 2006 or 2007 and will not help me with any information as to where or from whom he got it. (thanks for nothing). He is not much of a car guy. Any leads or help on the history of this car would be greatly appreciated. We also posted a picture of a 63 Savoy, as this car would have looked when it was new. As you can see it is far from new!
    Thanks, afxcarl55chevy

Anybody know anything about this one? I'm told it was raced as a 65 and then a new front end was put on and it was raced again in 66..
