Am looking for a set of taillights for my model a pickup. Anybody got some cool pics of the back of hot rod pickups? And, on a related subject, does anybody know how blue dots came to be? I mean, theyre cool and all, but where did they come from?

'37 Ford are pretty cool on Model A pickups - especially hiboys.

I am leaning toward 37 Ford taillights at this point- on a fenderless '30 highboy pickup. Im rebuilding an old hot rod and want to keep its fifties vibe.

dunno where bluedots got their start - I saw them on cars as early as the early 1950s (not the car - the year that I first noticed them) I saw taillights that looked purple and asked my dad why - he said same reason people have mudflaps with decorations - make their car different. I can tell you that when I bought my first car, bluedots were the 2nd modification (dual exhaust being the first, of course). I have installed them on virtually every hot rod I've owned and currently own.

Here's a shot of what I'm running for tailights on my 1949 F1. They are from a late 40's Chrysler town and Country. I replaced the small uppper reflector with blue dots.

    Here's a great website for tailight housings, lens, etc;

Those look great on there! They don't stand out too much, almost blend. Great job putting those on!

I've been selling alot of the 37's lately.
They just look right on a old Ford.

And the 39 Chevy's work well on others as well.

I used 1970 Chevy Impala taillights mounted vertically on this T. They fit the space perfectly.

You do know that those are the stock taillamps on every body style of 1946-48 and early 49 Chrysler? The Town & Country in those days was a full wooden bodied 6cylinder sedan or 8cylinder convertible.
DOn't think anybody uses them for parts cars much, or did you really?

Let's see, what does everybody use?
51 Pontiac, 39 Chevrolet, 37 Ford, 38-39 Ford, 41-48 Chevrolet, 33-36 Ford P***enger stainless lights, 33-52 Ford pickup painted with stainless rim (same as 33-36), 32 Ford, Model A Ford.

    A little different:
41 Ford P***enger, painted Deluxe or chromed Super Deluxe, also used on panel trucks through 1956.
    42-48 Chevrolet Sedan delivery

Thanks. I found them on a car that was slowly sinking into the New Mexico desert, they were the only things left on the car.
Yeah, I had to rework the curve slightly to get them to set right on the fenders. I had to fabricate bulb holders also. I still need to fabricate some gaskets to seal them.

  23. Not that it would matter to us, but don't some states have issues with blue dots?

These are nice and simple and work well with a fenderless pickup

I can't speak of the origin of blue dots, but I know it wasn't in the aftermarket. There were cars in the 20s and 30s with blue dots built in the taillights from the factory.BBT
