pics of longbox greaser trucks?

    I was into the city over the weekend and saw a 51 Chev longbox with the usual primer and red rims. Was low as hell and the guy was beating the piss out of it, racing anybody he could find from stoplight to stoplight. I've always liked the looks of the longboxes and at least up here you can still get them reasonable. Anyone got any pics of some longbox projects?

    hey man, where in Manitoba are you located? I have a 67 GMC that is greasered up I guess you would say, but I replaced the long bed fleetside box with a flatbed. It's done in suede black with flames, flat black ralleys, dual smoke stack exhaust, and will soon be gettign the front lowered 2 "

    down in Killarney. way south. 4 miles off the border. saw the 51 in Brandon on Saturday, was pretty sweet and the guy wasn't scared to beat the living shit out of her. I think I spied a greasy Caterpillar cap on his head. I've seen your 67 over on Stovelbot.com, looks good. Working on a 51 International 1 ton dually right now, trailer puller when all is said and done. How are things up north?

    Things up here are cold bud. But what can ya do, can't change the weather. I am about to start in on the wifes 58 GMC short fleetside here. And after that I am looking at doing a 51 International L-110 short stepside that a buddy gave me [​IMG]

    sounds like me, too many projects too little time. I'm also doing a 50 IH L110, got a 455 in a 98 olds for it the other day. Engine in my one ton was seized when I got it, pulled a good runner out of a 403 combine, just have to drop it in. Also working at putting disc brakes on the one ton, little better than the "hold on or else" ones she has. Post some pics of the IH if you've got some. And if the project doesn't get started, let me know I might be in the market for another binder.

  11. I've known Don for a long time. 5-6-7 club member for many years. His blue 57 rag I would give my left nut for. Buddy of mine still has his old white 55 two door hardtop.
    You must live in hillbilly country, all those old IH's [​IMG] There's a few out here too. A friend of mine has a 57 shortbox, another has a KB-1 on a newer Malibu frame, getting a 394 and Hydro. There's even a mid fifties travelall panel here, but kinda rough. Where's the pics???
     
  12. I was just offered a 64 IH p/u for "no money down and no payments... forever". Don't know anything about 'em (other than they're ugly, but I'm a beggar not a chooser). Anyone know anything about IHs? Are parts available? Anything to look for?

    no pics as of yet, the digital camera is on the fritz. grandpa was an IH man and I think he put that into me. seems the dealer in this part of the province put alot of trucks out on the road years ago. been looking for an IH 4x4 pickup for a long while but haven't had much luck other than for overpriced garbage that is so beat it's barely worth starting. anything out your way? also been trying to find a half decent 53 or 54 Olds to work with, scarcer and scarcer it seems. saw don's 57 on sunday, they had a cruise-in at the local burger shack; a few other choice cars, but everybody buggered off by 6:00. caught the train of steel leaving town.

    A 64 is a pretty decent truck by all accounts and you can't beat free! Parts are mighty easy to come by with a decent guy behind the parts counter, alot of overlap between ford and gm in the IH parts line, mostly in brakes and electrical. The engines will most often run forever, just don't expect a pile of rpms, the oil pressure in most is little if any, but they will pull stumps all day long. I'd definitely take the truck for that price (that's just me, an IH is a great freebie in comparison to some of the shit i've been given over the years), as long as you have a spot to stash it, no damage done. Trouble with rust, and not great winter trucks, engines are heavy and it leaves little weight over the back tires, doesn't take too much to become overcentered. But it will outlast most drivers. post some pix is if you can.
     
  15. No pix yet... I haven't even seent the truck yet. 6 cyl. rebuilt and running, 3 on the floor; needs an interior; comes with NOS fenders, but no box/bed; no gas tank. I have no plans to fancy it up, just cobble it together, rattle can it and drive it.

    you've got half the battle won if you've got NOS fenders, rust is mostly along the brace in the front fenders under the A pillar, cab corners, and boxes surprisingly are most often rust free, not a lot of spots from the factory to catch shit in the winter. Cab is the same as the ones used on nearly 2 million Loadstars that IH sold over the years, very easy to find and almost always in pretty decent shape. The rebuilt engine is a blessing as well. Good find. As per gas tank, lots of room under the truck to put one on, the factory ones behind the seat left something to be desired safety wise.

    I won't know if I lucked out until I see the thing. The guy has had it for years, but he's more into muscle cars. Now he's out of space and the truck's gotta go to make room for a Chevelle. I haven't gotten anything for free in my entire life, and I'm not known for my great luck, so we'll see.

    The guy tells me that he's had the body off and sandblasted the frame but the cab corners are still lousy. I don't know anything about gas tanks, but I'll have a look and see what works. Might have to do a flat bed and a beer keg tank... and change my name to Goober. [​IMG]

    Yeah I think about 4 inches off the lid of the grey one. A rebuilt six is a good deal, IH engines are heavy for a reason, lots of good cast in those blocks, and rated for about 300,000 miles before the next rebuild. Those engines were used in everything from cotton mills to combines. I sourced an engine for my 51 tonner out of a clapped out 403 IH combine. Rebuilt with 8 hours on the clock. Check out www.oldihc.org for some good IH info.

  25. That one's not mine just a pic that the Raven sent me.
    But I think I can score redline tires, I'll look for an ad in the morning.
    I'm afraid that the beaner '65 won't squat that low, it has to be a real pusher (and puller) that usually requires a litte more ground clearance.

    I do have to change my underwear everytime I squint a look at it though. Rust and all.

    Here's a couple of pics of one I picked up last year, was loading scrap at a guys farm and couldn't get a full load so picked this up for $150 CDN and filled out the leftover space on the trailer. 318 poly, three on the tree and a Dana 60 rear. Super straight for a farm truck but it has the usual Dodge cab rot. Waiting in line for some attention. Lowered and a little welding and ready to go. Can't beat that oxidized paint and the farmers name on the box.

    here is mine. I opted to hand fabricate the flatbed instead of using the stock bed. I did however use the stock bed mounts and the stock tail light wiring harness so if I want to swap it back to a stock bed, I just have to remove 4 bolts and unplug the wiring and bolt on a bed. I may end up changing it out in a couple years if I get sick of the flatbed look
