I picked this up and I wonder if anyone can tell the application? It appears to have been never used. Only markings are Guide S-18. Arm is appx 16 inches long.

Are brackets available for these for different applications?

I just found the bracket number. 5939159LH. I can figure the LH. For a 59? 59 what?

    Thanks

I tripped over a Guide catalog last night while looking for something else...will see if that's in there. It's from the period of rack&pinion spotlights...I think that is one of those. Shaft contains 2 long racks, moved/moving a pinion in each end...

the application of any spotlight is mostly determined by the mounting bracket. that and the length of the arm.

after a lengthy search for left and right brackets for my old 49 I found that Unity still makes them

as far as I know anything that is "guide" is for a GM application.

That was my understanding also but eh, I had been wrong (many times) before, so I figured I better ask. :D

Guide is a GM division, and most of its business is OEM, but it does or did sell aftermarket as well. The catalog I have is mostly aftermarket add-on lighting, some universal stuff like foglights, some packaged as kits, including things like Ford application turn signals.
It's just like Delco...they can supply points for a Plymouth.

  6. Used to see some like that on early to mid 50s GM cars. Nice looking light.

I found my '54 catalog. Many numbers very close to that, off by one digit and so on, but not your bracket.
This was marketed as an aftermarket piece as well as a GM accessory, with kits for all makes shown for about 1940 up. I think the actual light came out in early fifties and did not last long in the market. The rack and pinion design was cool and unexpected...probably done to doge Unity patents.
